I'm not testing my 17 years old Coleman Powermate 6875 Generator because it leaks oil so I would need to refill every time I test it. I put a pan under the engine to catch the oil (it's inside a shelter), discard it and add new oil when I need to run it. The good side is the engine always has fresh oil when I need it lol. When it's very cold (it's often then that I need it), I need to prime it with some carburetor cleaner through its air intake before it would successfully starts and keep running. Over the 17 years I've own it, I used it six times. Two of those times were for three days in a row after big summer storms dropped lots of trees on the power lines. The other four times were just for less than a day during winter to keep the cottage warm when we lost electricity for some reason. Last time was last year after a winter storm that took 8 hours before Hydro fixed it.

I've been using Stabil 360 in all my small engines. It's supposed to help with ethanol, but the caveat is it stabilizes fuel for only 12 months, instead of 24 months for Stabil Storage.

Need to watch the fine print on all additives...... Some Stabil products will spec longer storage @ double-dose levels.... simple data like that tends to get obscured by marketing graphics etc, but hopefully the product-comparison table I'm thinking of is still kicking around on their site....

I do like their 360 approach, esp. for my metal fuel-tank equipment.

The power was restored today after an 8 day outage here in Salem, Oregon.
We ran our 7000 watt Champion for 4 hours in the morning and 4 hours in the evening.
Used the Bluetti 150 in-between as needed.
This kept the freezer and fridge cold and hot water heater hot (enough).
We would not need anything larger.
It came out to almost exactly 5 gallons per day of regular pump grade ethanol laced fuel stored since last summer.
No problems whatsoever.

Good to hear things went well for you Harry  , well played.

HPS Home Power Solutions Receives 221 Handelsblatt Energy Award for its Hydrogen Power Storage System - FuelCellsWorks

Side stepping generator bad gas issues. After the deep south power outages of last week in the USA more are thinking about home power generation solutions.

Well, you could probably start your own hydrogen company with not much more than a couple of dozen of those electricity bills that some people are getting hit with in TX.

It's the ultimate IC fuel, IMO. Well over 25 years ago, a Canadian company was generating hydrogen from PV power..... doesn't get much simpler than that.....

It seems to be from the seal between the engine and generator although I never bothered to try to figure it out. Now I'm more curious. When I'm the cottage later this week, I'll clean the engine and see if I can find the leak.

 I think containment tech has advanced a bit since that picture....

Diesel is probably the lowest risk combustible fuel, but as we sit in 2021, it's being demonized out of existence.

They all have inherent risks. I use propane for certain things, but one thing I really don't like about propane is that it is heavier than air. House in Toronto blew up a few years back, after the owner parked a leaking catering truck in his driveway.

Even with zero air pollution effects (magic-wand time....), if gasoline was invented in 2021, it wouldn't make it to market anywhere we have the lawyer density we do in Canada/USA, because of the other liabilities.

Ya pick yer poison..... ;)
