Best guess is that it doesn’t overshoot the set point.

How would an electric heater pulsing have anything to do with efficiency?
The heat strips put out less heat per hour to prevent overshooting the temperature set point and making things too hot.

A heating element is a slow process. A lot of histerisous (sp?) Pulses are meaningless.

I have a gizmo I plug my block heaters into for standbye use, driven by a clock type motor and cam. Two settings. 10 min on, 20 off or the other way around. Basically has the same effect as reducing wattage but has no electronics.

This is just a thermostat running a standard 4’ and a 2’ baseboard heater. It has 3 output levels - 25,50,75 and 100% to avoid overshoot which it turns out is just on time vs off time in the 20 second range which means continuous frequency upsets running on generator.

I bought it because it was about the same price as a plain mechanical t-stat but it displays temperature and had some sort of automatic functions I’ve yet to actually use.

Don’t shoot me, I’m just the messenger.

A mechanical baseboard thermostat will trip on 2F below the set point and turn off 2F over the set point. That's a 4F difference that creates discomfort. Also, keep in mind that variation is AT THE TERMOSTAT, which is often on the opposite wall of the baseboard. At the baseboard, the temperature difference is even higher! An electronic thermostat because of its 0%, 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% variable duty cycle will keep the temperature within 0.5F from the set point and because of the way it operates, once settled, temperature at the baseboard is relatively the same as at the thermostat.

Like it was mentioned earlier though, the generator will keep hunting for its speed because of that duty cycle, especially if you have many electronic thermostats (I have five) since they turn on or off at their own time.

I bought a fancy electronic thermostat at the Resore for five bucks for my living room baseboard heater. Had all kinds of trouble with it, a real head scratcher. Then realized, probably because of the location of the couch, the internal safety stat in the baseboard was cycling on and off, cutting power to the electronic stat. When ever I want to adjust it, it's always off and I have to wait some time before the safety stat resets and I can adjust the stat. I will install a resistor across the safety stat, hopefully a value that won't dissipate much heat but will give the stat enough power to operate.

Load Watts...... not so simple sometimes...... good discussion.

I'm going to need a water pump for my 20kw onan diesel. Chilliwack Murphy sent me something that I - 1 cant find, and 2 don't remember if it was a parts list.
Is this something that I can find avoiding a dealer? It's just dripping a very little, I'm guessing that after sitting for ?? (prior to my purchase) and my usage has aggravated a dried out seal.
FWIW here's the info.

Eventually I'll ask about the type of anti freeze, and after my electrician put's his meter on it to measure the "cycle", (remember the microwave and range clocks being off?)

Are you ready to mortgage the house? Best find the pump from the Engine Manufacturer. Or take it apart and put a bearing /seal in.
