BH will almost always be on unless I need the 3PH which as of now I have no plans for. Is it diminishing returns to get the tires filled in that case?

I can totally see myself taking the tires off. I will likely do all the maintenance. I've maintained hydraulic systems and fabricated race cars so I dont think the maintenance is beyond my skill level.

You're on a "hilly" property, I'd recommend filling the tires, period. It'll help with traction and stability. I wouldn't worry about the extra weight when removing and reinstalling them, it's all about technique.

Def decided to go with a BH at this point. If they can help me get stumps out that is a bonus.
I've dug out several up to about 10" diameter. Stumps that have been dead for a couple of years are much easier than freshly cut ones.
Thought about filled tires but concerned about their weight if I need to take them off for whatever reason. Is this a valid concern?
Yes. Tractor tires are heavy to begin with and loading them makes them much heavier. That's kind of the point. But you can use a hand truck or similar to move them around.

The BH will be useful. Up to about 18” stumps you can generally do within a reasonable amount of time. Bigger can be done, but takes longer.

Fill your rear tires, simple, best ballast there is.

If I wanted to plant that, depending on depth of top soil, I would just cite aerate it and overseed.
The time it takes depends on the tree type and how long it has been dead. Fresh Cedar? Have Fun! I cant imagine digging with something that weights 2000 lbs. I think it takes long enough with mine already! That said I really love the SCUT size, very easy to use and get into places. I will no doubt have one someday.

I have looked at the ratchet rake and love the idea that is all I need! Do you know if it can be attached with a piranha bar or similar installed or does that have to be removed to use the rake?

Def getting the BH. Its only 4k extra on the GCs. No brainer. Plus itll be extra ballast.
You gotta remove a piranha bar to install the ratchet rake, but the ratchet rake is mounted with straps, so comes on/off real easy. I wouldn't fill my tires yet if I was you, see how you do w/o it...but you also should know that rear ballast (like a backhoe) is not the same as filled tires. Rear ballast is what you want when you're doing heavy stuff with your loader, coz it takes stress off your front axle. Filled tires add weight, give you more traction, lower your center of gravity (well, some argue that).

Fill your tires! No problem taking on and off, just slide them around (and they can be hand lifted depending).

With filled tires, on decent ground, I can move a full bucket of whatever material I am trying to move, without more ballast.

With the backhoe on, the machine is a bit cumbersome, once you start moving around your property, I think your plan to leave it on most of the time will change (tight spaces, efficiency of movement, etc). Mine is off unless needed.

Much agreed.

And good points on the BH. I don't own one, but, if I did, it wouldn't be on very often. My box blade and wood chipper are almost always in use.

Never have more then 2 hours into any stump, biggest was 24” or so. For customers, I limit to 18” or so, due to cost of me doing it Vs grinding. ((Shrugs)).....

I have multiple 24" stumps so hope I can remove them without renting equipment that would be nice.

I have no implements planned to use the 3PH so Ill evaluate whether the BH becomes an asset or a liability with experience I guess.

Guess I need to sleep on the filled tires thing.

Should be, yes, but there will be a learning curve about when, where and how quickly you can or cannot turn. Do it wrong and you end up rolled over.

Look into the new R14s. I have R4s and they're all but useless on anything but dry grass.

They can be added, but usually cost MUCH more. Also, you really want one matched to the tractor.
Speaking from someone with less than 3 hours on his new GC1723, you definitely need to learn what it can and cannot while turning on hills. My lot sounds almost exactly like yours. I gave myself a massive scare in the first hour when I thought it was going to roll down the hill and into the pond. I even started to jump off to the uphill side, and I knew enough to turn into the roll and slight accelerate to bring the weight shift back but wow that got the heart rate up. I have now spent hours looking at how quickly I can get about 300-400 pounds on the tail--and not fast enough is the answer.
