Found this on the ground ???

/ Found this on the ground ??? #41
Greetings everyone,

My first post and of course, it comes with a question.

I just bought a used tractor with 80 hours on the clock.

(Mehindra 2638 with FEL and backhoe)

After adding 4 hours on it, I found this on the ground and hoping someone will know what it is.
It's about 10" long. Opposite end has internal threads and hoping it is something for the 3 pont hitch.

Just a note about how i came to this sight.

I have some land, Covid-forced-retirememt, and needed something to keep me busy.

I know just enough to know the old saying, "He who is self-taught, has a fool for a master". So I have been reading posts on this site for a couple of weeks now.

I have operated a skid steer and a backhoe but very limited. So I am moving slow as I get to know how it all works. I pushed a couple of tree tops down a slop (10 degrees and moves the logs to one side), cleared some small brush and samplings in a 7 x 30 ft area to try out the backhoe. I finished by digging on a slop with the hopes of making a temp. flat surface for my RV to sit while I play, I mean work.

Thanks to the many who have shared info here for others to follow and learn.

Root Cause
When you have the backhoe on these are just hanging down and vibration makes them unscrew, have had it happen. Make sure you tighten locking nut against this part so it stays put or remove them with the backhoe on

Root Cause
The other end is probably still on the tractor. Vibration probably unscrewed this portion from what remains on the tractor

Yeah, from 3pl as others say...

Look at ways to stop it unscrewing, it should not, and, your 3pl arm will be flapping around and may be able to cut into tyre or get jammed, so if you do not use it, you prob need to strap the arms or adjust and fix so they cannot wander into the tyre, or, keep an implement of some kind on there, my tractors always have something on them :)

Wow, thanks all.

I will look closer in the morning to see if I can find where this belongs and take picture.

I have not used the 3 point hitch and don't know if/when I will. But I certainly don't want to lose parts as I bump along fat and happy!

I don't know if anything else came off. I will bring metal detector next time and cover the area. For now, I guess I better keep an eye out for something else.

Thanks again everyone and I am excited to a part of this forum. Lots to learn for sure.
My dad had an arm fall loose like that. Backhoe snapped the top link boss out of rear end. It was a nasty deal. We welded it three different times, finally it holds. Be careful with backhoes with the ridgid top link. Its the biggest bush hog .brand hoe. The broke tractor could only use pull type implements until we fixed it. We had plenty of other tractors, That one was missed the most.

I believe the part that threads internally to that has a nut that should be tightened against the part youi found. Check the opposite side. I call them Sway Bars if it is not the Centre Link. Tighten it too.

It is not part of the sway bar by industry labels. It is part of the side link from upper lift arm to lower lift arm. It is the lower 2/3’s of the adjustable link. Apparently he had installed a backhoe and removed the lower lift arms and sway bars, but left the side links hanging.

While this was used (80 hours), I expected a whole tractor.
My dealer could not have been nicer. I took pictures of things missing on mine (about 6 things).
I went by yesterday and he handed me everything I asked for without hesitation or cost.

I know all tractors are not created equal but I choose the brand based on the dealer.
I learned that the hard way when I bought a motorhome 7 years ago.
My wife thought we had a lemon but it was the continuous trips for repeat repairs that made it seem that way.
It had a lifetime warranty that they honored but it was worthless when it took 3, 4, or 5 tries to get one thing fixed.
When I started fixing things, the RV magically turned into a reliable vehicle.

Welcome to TBN. Lots of good advice from veteran "tractorers".
Glad to hear your dealer helped you out. They're not all that user-friendly.
