Man shot and killed by juveniles while bush hogging

My EX, post divorce, was out on her property and one of her neighbors was shooting in her direction (they're idiots). Ricochet off her forehead just above one of her eyes. It was a .22. To a woman, having a facial scar is pretty bad. Pretty sure, however, that she realizes that it was likely the best outcome (outside of NOT being shot at and hit).

Speaking of ricochets, it's possible that the kids hit the tractor and the bullet ricocheted off the tractor and hit the guy. Possible. So, it's therefore possible that they were really only shooting at the Tractor. Clearly, as the outcome tells us, this mattered little.

Hunting... I never wanted to hunt with a modern rifle. If you can't hit with one shot then stop: people are inclined to squeeze again. I would only hunt black powder: you're a lot less likely to pull the trigger hastily.
My dad wouldn't let me hunt with a repeater until I turned 18. When I sniveled and whined about it, he said, "You don't need a better rifle, you need to be a better hunter."

My ancestors fed themselves across the Great Plains in the 1840s with a smooth bore flintlock. I still have their powder horns, one for the pan and one for the bore.

My Dad gave me a single shot Remington .22 made in 1939. He only bought .22 shorts, and expected me to bring home a rabbit or a squirrel shot through the head. He said repeaters were a waste of expensive ammo, and that you need to learn to hit what you shoot at the first time. I still have the rifle.

I still have mine. It has accounted for hundreds of varmints over the years, though I use HPLR. Having to manually cock it after closing the action makes it a pretty safe back door gun.

i used to go to N.O. for the music and the food. no more. last jazz festival i went to some unlucky middle aged guy got shot in the back of the head, for no reason at all except it was part of an initiation to get into a gang....nice.

last time i went was a couple years ago to see my nephew beat the saints in the last and meaningless game of the season, breeze did not play.

the night before the game we went to the french quarter and the smell was overwhelming! it's worse every time i go. my nephew and his girl friend were both raised in a bubble, insulated and safe. nephew of course couldn't go out but, when we got to one bar his girlfriend was obviously out of her element and didn't stray 6 inches from me.
I lived in NO during the late 60's and early 70's. The quarter was pretty bad back then. It's much, much worse today and the burbs arn't much better. I only live two hours away now but never go there unless I just have to.

I got to spend a few months just outside of NO in Chalmette in 1998; was there for the whole month of Mardi Gras. Wonderful people, some of the friendliest I ever met.
