I might end up doing just that. I use wood from the poplar family of trees for starter wood, but I had another larger one come down this spring and there is no way I need more starter wood.

Man - that's a lot of extra work cleaning up a tree like that goe.

I agree I ended up with five and the base log is almost to the limit of the tractor.

Back when I first started my custom furniture/cabinet shop, a guy my friend knew, had a whole pickup load of cottonwood lumber stored in his garage. He was going through a divorce and sold the whole load to me for 75 bucks.

Another friend owned a sewing/vac shop and wanted me to design/build a sewing table he could sell and I did just that. I designed them using that pile of cottonwood to build them out of! They sold quite well, and I ended up turning that big pile of cottonwood into a pretty good pile of cash!!

Everyone loved the tables, the cottonwood turned out to make some VERY nice furniture!!

No good for firewood or lumber?

Cottonwood - heavy, slimy and hard to handle when green, weighs nothing and burns in a flash when dry. When the tree is alive, it drops lots of "fluff" and plugs air conditioners, radiators, drains and anything else it can get into. Absolutely the most worthless tree in existence. (Just my opinion)
