Can't find any other threads on this, but does anyone have any ideas to get the tranny out of Turtle?? I tried rocking, both gently and vigorously, but to no avail. I often run across town with it, and it's a fifteen minute trip in low. (yes, it's a small town.) Any ideas would be welcome.

It's happened before, but always worked its way back out. I've checked fluid levels, all seem to be OK, and tried both when it was both warm and cool.

Thanks in advance, to all, and I hope you are all enjoying your late summer.

I assume you mean the slow/fast lever is stuck and will not move from turtle to rabbit? I'd look at the linkage that connects that lever to the transmission. May just be an adjustment ? Might be an interlock between the fwd/rev pedal and the range lever ? If so try going to rabbit while barely edging the go pedal into fwd or rev motion. It will/should scrape but may "go" and let you change ranges.

Overall, sounds like an adjustment issue. Hopefully NOT something more serious or internal to the tranny !

Try going in reverse/forward and applying the brake....sometimes the shift is difficult.....and maybe an adjustment is need per above post.
Cheers,
Mike

Worth a try. However the "brakes" on these things are essentially worthless. Is on mine and 2 other BX2200s I have worked on.

I started to shift my L2501 from M to L the other day and I had to rock it back and forth while pulling on the lever as hard as I could. After I finally moved it, it seemed to get a little easier. Thinking back mine had been in M for months without being moved. Lesson learned. I'm gonna shift it every time I use it from now on. Hopefully it'll limber up.

If it is stuck in Low, how does it start? I didn't think the bx would start in gear.

You are right -- it has to be in neutral, neither rabbit nor turtle... if he did get it started (while in turtle) that is a huge clue to the whole problem. Means at the very least the sensor detecting neutral is out of whack... the plot thickens.

Interesting. From the day I bought it new in '09 I've never had to put it in neutral to start my BX24. Hmmm.....

Oh My! Sounds like something was wrong from the gitgo and no has migrated to a fresh problem... seek the dealer if you can.

I've had the mechanical linkages bind on both my B7610 and M4700. Get underneath, wiggle them around, spray a lot of garage door lubricant on them and they work again.

(sorry, messed up the quoting)

Just checked the wiring diagram. There's a HST _pedal_ neutral switch but I don't see one for the Rabbit/Turtle lever. Will do some further homework... The dealer interaction was 12 years ago, and they were worthless then. I'll puzzle it out myself.

That was _me_ wondering about my 24, not the OP and the 22. I don't mean to sidetrack this thread. Are the '22 and the '24 different?

Z.

My BX23 (2003) starts either turtle/rabbit/neutral FWIW

My comments on having to be in neutral to start are w/r to the BX2200. Might be different with BX22? I would not have thought so...

Wes, the switch on the neutral (R/N/T) selector lever was unplugged by the dealer when I decided not to pay $300 to replace a three dollar switch (I think they wanted $25 for the switch at the time). I still have the safety cutout on the PTO selector. I cleaned the entire tranny and axle area out really well, and found a lot of the frenchman (gravel and dirt debris) all up in the linkages and framework. My nephew doesn't take very good care of my equipment. It was still a bugger, but I was able to pull the lever back into Rabbit using a bit of effort and shaking around. With the R/N/T lever out to make room to work on the feedback rod, the actual control lever was more sturdy down by the tranny case and pulled back with a bit of force. The Starboard rear wheel was off at the time. Funny story, the other night I must have crushed and snapped the feedback rod on the hydraulic lever while I was mounting the newly serviced 60" belly mower. I can't get it out to replace it, the rod, but I have a new ($50+ for the little steel rod, sheesh) one should I figure it out.

I'm not that cheap, and will pay for quality, but Kubota is really charging ridiculous prices for their stuff.

Thanks guys for all your help. If you know anything about the way the feedback rod can be removed from the hydraulic lever without removing the hydraulic valving and linkage on the Port side, I'd appreciate that, too. Boy, am I a needy little bit** this week!!:eek:

My BX25d ALWAYS starts in gear and has from day one brand new. Had a BX24 before that and it started in any position as well.
This is news to me…

On my 2005 BX2230, it will not start if the lever is in gear. Unfortunately after washing the under side after trailering on salted roads, and leaving it in gear outside in freezing temps, it would not start. Gear rods froze in plce and could not move them Had to get heat gun out, and warm up the area above the right tire where the detent switch was. (Did not have heated garage space to dry it out.)

Now my 2007 B26TLB will start in gear as long as foot pedal is in neutral position. If foot pedal is out of neutral even barely, it will not start. Both tractors are HST. Jon

Ah Ha ! So here's a guy who has one of each -- a BX22XX and a B26... AND they are different -- one won't start whilke in gear and the other one will. Wonder why the mfr would do that ? Maybe since the B26 normally has the backhoe on there's some reason why it needs to be able to start in gear ?? Makes no sense to me.

I think its maybe more timeframe maybe, the BX1500 needs to be in neutral to start, the B2620 doesn't.
Same difference with clutch safety, '10 B2620hst doesn't need clutch depressed to start, '07 L3240hst does.

It has to do with the fact that one is a BX series and the other is a B series, two complete different tractors. Also, the B series has a clutch pedal, no BX ever did.
Kubota changed their wiring and safety switches after the BX30 series. The BX24 and BX50 series and later models have a safety switch on the hydro linkage rather that the Range selector lever.
Attached is a list of BX series and years built.
