How many people have you known "personally", who you believe died because they had COVID-19? I won't comment after answering the question and have no idea how the answers will come out. I hope they'll be revealing.

Yeah, could also be reporting the same deaths multiple times or forgetting someone who died. This is totally unscientific…and it’s on the internet. Not aiming for anything just wondering if any trends developed as I was scrolling through and thought I’d share.

This is why we have statistics and scientific studies - because local observations (especially self-reports from a small population) and personal anecdotes often provide a completely wrong view of the big picture.

I'm sure my wife who works as a nurse at the hospital has an entirely different set of personal anecdotes, but if we went off of her percentages you'd get a similarity skewed version of the big picture, because most of the people she sees are sick.

Interesting, my assumption would be you’re not very old. I don’t know anyone from a tractor accident or brain cancer but have all the others. Add dementia, gunshot, drowning, too many suicides, and several aircraft deaths and whatever else I’m not thinking of.

I already said it’s not scientific, it’s just the numbers from the other thread. If you care or not it doesn’t really matter to me, I’m just sharing the data from the other thread for anyone that’s curious.

The significant number, if you're talking about affecting other people, is not deaths, it's hospitalizations. When hospital ICU beds are taken up by COVID patients, that doesn't leave any for accident victims or other emergencies.

The death rate is still less than 1%

The thread check out that most people will only know 1 to 2 people to die from covid.

Year-to-year, the death rate in the U.S. is about the same. Those covid related deaths are in addition to all of those other causes of death. And, most of those other death reasons listed aren't contagious.

So while it's still less than 1% death rate, tell that to the families that lost 750,000 people. They'll really appreciate it.

I use this as a source. They’re open about where they get their info. You can click on the column headings to resort the list by that column’s info (either numerically or alphabetically as the case may be). (Example: Clicking on the column heading for deaths/1 M (million) population shuffles Mississippi and Alabama to top of the list. The highest state being about 3500 deaths per million, or 1 death every 288 residents.

Graphs at bottom of page show trends.
You can click on each state on the list to see how that state is doing and sometimes get county to county info.
You also can click on World and get a similar list of country’s stats. Individual countries on this list can be explored just like states in the original list.
