Most of the looters are from out of state. My sister who had a garage destroyed was upset that some people getting free toys for kids had no damage and that people she saw getting other free stuff had no damage. I pointed out to her that both my daughters had picked up food and other items and carried it to people who had damage and could not get out to pick up supplies.

Samaritans Purse, Church of Christ Ministries, and some Baptist organizations have done outstanding work in this disaster. They all receive nothing but praise from any who have had any contact with them.
Your story of Samaritans Purse helping those folks find their Son's ashes proves their value.

We saw more of the tornado damage today where we took the 3600 Ford to the tractor shop to get some things rebuilt on each end. The shop is on the east side of the Mayfield airport and i-69 and due to a house fire they had the road blocked off so we had to take 131 North and saw more damage and it is unbelievable what is gone.

The tornado missed the tractor shop by about 300 ft and our 1976 265 Massey Ferguson was in the shop.

I drove down 131 from Hwy 58 to the Parkway and back on the morning after the tornado. Had two of my grands with me. The way it looks now is nothing compared to then. The eight and five year old grands were silent for about ten minutes after that little trip. That is very unusual for them.

The remains of my sister's garage were piled up at the edge of her yard on a sideroad. Last week about dark a 'lady' knocked on her door and asked if she and her 'man' could go thru the wreckage. Said they were looking for a Big Wheel. The woman was missing most of her front teeth. (Hint: a sure sign of meth use). Sister told her no. The lady got insistent saying it was all junk and that they might find something useful they could take. Sister told her to get off property.

Sister also had a "highly recommended" contractor come to their house and sit with them for a half hour of so discussing rebuilding their destroyed building. Brother-in-law did not like the guy but sister said he seemed nice. Later that day she searched Better Business and everything else to see if there were any complaints about him and found out that he had been arrested for meth on December 15th.

I do not like methheads. Had to work with several over the years. They are unpredictable and can be violent. Nearly every arrest made in this county for the past five years has been over meth or the arrested have had it on them while committing another crime. While I might have some symphathy for other drug users I have none for meth users. Lock them up and throw away the key. And yes I have had some in my extended family be arrested for it.

Yesterday I did not realize the dollar store was missing until I got home and saw a post about the damage up 131 on Facebook last night.

The tractor service I use is on Dairy Hill Road that runs up the east side of the airport strip and is the last building before you jump I-69. David said that he sees a police car about every hour and even late at night l patrolling for looters on that little County Road which is just a pig path Lane in the half wide.

A Facebook post stated that the Dollar general is planning to have it new store rebuilt and open by Valentine's Day so that's about 6 weeks. I expect that is doable is if all the plumbing and everything is still accessible because there'll be no permits required for driveways anything really and everything will be expedited anyway.

That was awesome that you let your grandkids experience that fresh damage so that they can have a respect for tornadoes.

Isn't it sad that the victims of this storm now have to deal with the predators.

Every incident, however small, needs to be reported.

Continued prayers for everyone there. Even including the tweakers...

I hate what drugs do to people. I can't imagine going to a location where people have had such destruction visited apon them, with the express purpose as to steal. Your live would have to be in a really bad place.

I worked with a girl who had been dried out from meth twice. She said the next time would be prison for a while. Had got hooked first time and lost husband and kids. Got dried out at some place in Nashville TN. Then saw some "old friends" who wanted to drink a beer with her and they put meth in her beer. Now this is what I was told so I don't know if it is possible. But she got hooked again. And dried out again. She got custody of her kids when ex-husband went to Iraq and had been clean for several years.

She told me that the last thing on her mind when she went to sleep at night was longing for meth. And the first thing when she woke up in the morning was wanting meth.

Told her ex if she ever got hooked again that she would write a suicide note and let him shoot her.

Life goes on.....just a little slower when retired.

    • MAYFIELD, KY — A man was killed by law enforcement Wednesday morning after state police say he approached officers patrolling the tornado relief distribution center at the Mayfield-Graves County Fairgrounds and fired multiple gunshots at them.
Officers with the Frankfort Police Department assisting with recovery efforts in in Graves County were patrolling the fairgrounds around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday when an armed man approached them, according to Kentucky State Police.

State police say the man fired multiple gunshots, and the officers returned fire. The man was shot during the exchange, and Mayfield-Graves County EMS transported him to Jackson Purchase Medical Center in Mayfield. The man was later pronounced dead at the hospital by the Graves County coroner.
Kentucky State Police says the Frankfort Police Department asked the state law enforcement agency's Critical Response Team to investigate the incident.

No officers or other members of the public were injured in the incident, KSP says.

The distribution center at the fairgrounds was closed Wednesday for the investigation. It is scheduled to reopen at 11 a.m. Thursday.
In the meantime, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says several nearby churches are offering basic supplies. Additionally, anyone in the community with unmet needs can call the Tornado Information Hotline at 270-727-5114.
