State police: Man killed after shooting at police officers at tornado relief distribution center in Mayfield​

  • MAYFIELD, KY — A man was killed by law enforcement Wednesday morning after state police say he approached officers patrolling the tornado relief distribution center at the Mayfield-Graves County Fairgrounds and fired multiple gunshots at them.
    Officers with the Frankfort Police Department assisting with recovery efforts in in Graves County were patrolling the fairgrounds around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday when an armed man approached them, according to Kentucky State Police.
    
    State police say the man fired multiple gunshots, and the officers returned fire. The man was shot during the exchange, and Mayfield-Graves County EMS transported him to Jackson Purchase Medical Center in Mayfield. The man was later pronounced dead at the hospital by the Graves County coroner.
    Kentucky State Police says the Frankfort Police Department asked the state law enforcement agency's Critical Response Team to investigate the incident.
    
    
    No officers or other members of the public were injured in the incident, KSP says.
    
    The distribution center at the fairgrounds was closed Wednesday for the investigation. It is scheduled to reopen at 11 a.m. Thursday.
    In the meantime, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says several nearby churches are offering basic supplies. Additionally, anyone in the community with unmet needs can call the Tornado Information Hotline at 270-727-5114.

Grandson sent me a couple more pics. These are of the barge and Excavator being used to clean Kentucky Lake.

He said they've been slowed a little by weather. Looks like the Storm that will hit us starting tomorrow morning will hit them tomorrow late afternoon/evening. Rain changing to snow.

I'm setting it out in front of Walmart in Murray which is Callaway County and it is bad or was bad when I first got here right after 7:00 it was unbelievable how fast loose carts can go across a parking lot but it has calmed down some and the lighting is not on top of us.

I had gotten behind on the horse lot some during all the weather so I stayed with it last night after 10:00 p.m. and got everything cleaned up before the rain turned it all into mush and as hard as it's raining it has flushed everything down to the hard clay.

Got probably 2 inches of rain last night on top of our frost frozen ground so about the top 3 inches is schloppy. Getting colder today with 3-5 inches of snow expected Wednesday night into Thursday

So far today it started out about 29F, rose to about 35F and the sun tried to come out. Now that scares me, as it would anybody living in tornado land. Had to drive about 30 miles south at 2:00 and by the time we started home at 4:00 temp had dropped to 28F and it was raining, snowing, sleeting, and doing a mixture of all three at once.

Winter storm warning out until 6PM tomorrow.
