Also in Mayfield, Samaritan's Purse is still very active. I saw a bunch of them working cleaning up yards at condemned houses on 6th Street. Also saw a white van, yes a WHITE van, with Mennonite Relief on the side. Believe it or not it had something about Ebineezer Temple or something like that written on it. They were also working but had on green vests. Samaritan's Purse wear bright orange vests.

This was the first time I've been down North 6th Street since the tornado. One of the houses my wife and I always thought was the most beautiful in town is just a shell. It was owned and lived in by the author Bobby Mason (name may be wrong, she was popular forty years ago).

But, life goes on....

Yesterday I did not realize the dollar store was missing until I got home and saw a post about the damage up 131 on Facebook last night.

The tractor service I use is on Dairy Hill Road that runs up the east side of the airport strip and is the last building before you jump I-69. David said that he sees a police car about every hour and even late at night l patrolling for looters on that little County Road which is just a pig path Lane in the half wide.

A Facebook post stated that the Dollar general is planning to have it new store rebuilt and open by Valentine's Day so that's about 6 weeks. I expect that is doable is if all the plumbing and everything is still accessible because there'll be no permits required for driveways anything really and everything will be expedited anyway.

That was awesome that you let your grandkids experience that fresh damage so that they can have a respect for tornadoes.

Thank goodness Dairy Hill was spared. Don't know what the county would have done next summer if it was destroyed.

Mmmmm.... Tasty Dog, tater tots, and a fresh banana milkshake........

That was a close call. Micky Fowler said it was the end of the road for K&N in Mayfield. Someone thought it was built mid 60's.

    • MAYFIELD, KY — A man was killed by law enforcement Wednesday morning after state police say he approached officers patrolling the tornado relief distribution center at the Mayfield-Graves County Fairgrounds and fired multiple gunshots at them.
Officers with the Frankfort Police Department assisting with recovery efforts in in Graves County were patrolling the fairgrounds around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday when an armed man approached them, according to Kentucky State Police.

State police say the man fired multiple gunshots, and the officers returned fire. The man was shot during the exchange, and Mayfield-Graves County EMS transported him to Jackson Purchase Medical Center in Mayfield. The man was later pronounced dead at the hospital by the Graves County coroner.
Kentucky State Police says the Frankfort Police Department asked the state law enforcement agency's Critical Response Team to investigate the incident.

No officers or other members of the public were injured in the incident, KSP says.

The distribution center at the fairgrounds was closed Wednesday for the investigation. It is scheduled to reopen at 11 a.m. Thursday.
In the meantime, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says several nearby churches are offering basic supplies. Additionally, anyone in the community with unmet needs can call the Tornado Information Hotline at 270-727-5114.

What the Hell.....

Personally, I think penalties for theft (and maybe fraud) should be enhanced in State or Federally declared disaster zones. If they can do it for traffic penalties in work zones, why not?
We already have a system in place. They are known as Judges. You can write regulations til you run out of ink and it does no good without Judges to enforce them. Maximum sentencing would help turn this part of our society around.

It was built in the 60's. I pulled in there in 1970 when I was 16 in a Ford pickup with the 6' tall sideboards on and knocked the awning over the parking area loose. I believe I had carried three or four steers to the stockyards and stopped for lunch. Nobody saw what I had done but I went inside and told the owner. He just laughed. My dad and I went there the next day with tools and fixed it. The owner bragged on me to my dad because he said most teenagers would have driven off and not said anything.

Anyway, it is not going to be rebuilt. Carr's Barn BBQ may not be rebuilt. I hate that. But the Carr's Steakhouse across the street will be.

Life goes on.....but today is covered in snow.

That was back in the when PUs we're work trucks. I remember getting one hog too many in our 53 Chevy and the load was 2,000 lb and that was a struggle getting there but we made it in the old worn out 6 cylinder.

I expect several of the mom and pop restaurants may not rebuild and I understand why. I think the places with liquor license will rebuild because that is like permit to print money. :)

Hmmm... Hawkins Research, did I once buy a computer from you???

RSKY
Yes if Hawkins Research name on it. We stopped building PC's in 1999 and totally focused on our software for property insurance adjusting and underwriting use. I worked out of my car for the about 3 years then got a retail place before the computers price drop below what our parts cost was.
