A warning about LG Appliances in regards to warranty service

/ A warning about LG Appliances in regards to warranty service #41
Lady I know bought a Frigadaire range from Lowes just before Christmas.
It caught on fire the moment it was plugged in. I would have taken it back to the store immediately, or if the kitchen needed a remodel hoped the breaker held on.
But they opted to have a service tech come. After one repair it caught fire again. On the other two attempts at repair it comes on by itself when plugged in. I dont know where it stands now.
First time it caught fire, it would have headed right back out the door. I wouldn't have much confidence in the brand or trust the bloody thing after that.

Not to mention not being able to sleep worrying about whether we were headed up in flames in the middle of the night.

A few years ago I was told by a Service tech to NEVER buy Korean (LG, Samsung) appliances because servicing them is ridiculous and expensive.

He said Frigidaire, Bosch, GE, Maytag, KitchenAid are pretty good about authorizing service and with parts availability.
Sounds like he's got an agenda. While I don't always trust their ratings, Consumer Reports shows LG as one of the more reliable brands, with Bosch very close to or at the bottom.

Wasn’t that long ago, you could get a decent used truck or tractor with that kinda money. Funny how the prices go up and up, but the service side goes down and down.
Locally, the mom and pop appliance business is done. The big box stores ran them out. Noticed lately at Lowes, fewer and fewer employees, more vendors. Last time I was there, one cashier in whole store. I left my items and dont plan on going back. Good thing we have internet and freight trucks.
Last time I got a decent used truck for $3000 was in the 80s. Yeah, I know if feels like yesterday, but it isn't.
Likewise, mom & pop appliance stores have been history for a long time.
Not sure what the issue is where you live, but at the Lowes nearest me you can't take 3 steps without bumping into an employee. Not that they're all terribly knowledgeable, but that's a different story for a different day.
4 self checkouts (my preference), and generally 2 registers open, hardly any wait at all.

The 2016 to 2019 LG refrigerators are junk. The compressors have a known problem with failures or leaks from the sealed system. Unfortunately mine was purchased April of 2019. This is the 2nd time the compressor has stopped. 1st time was a year ago. Per the 1st tech out the new compressors are redesigned and should have no issues once installed. I hope so because once I accept the settlement money then I waive any claim to future warranty if I keep the fridge. Compressor is warranted for 5 years parts and labor and 10 years parts. Will see what the repair costs then have to decide if it's worth keeping it.

For me, it would stand at the curb or maybe stuffed in the customer entrance at the store where it was purchased at.

Been my experience that usually the start or run caps take a dump and they are easy and cheap to replace.

Well, guess it depends on your standards. I bought a 1996 Chevy 2500, 86K last week for 1500.
My local appliance guy closed his business July 2020.
I refuse to use ”self checkout”. Why would I encourage corporate America to put more people out of work? Why would I think its a good idea to pick through their shelves, load my own, pay by myself and be happy about it?

Around here we have self checkouts because they can't find workers to run the registers. Other industry is paying more so that leaves a shortage at the retailers.

Other industry? Everyone is saying there is a worker shortage. How many millions are on the unemployment lists? At what point do they not count because they no longer qualify for benefits?
All I have talked with are commenting that they get interviews but no offers.I am thinking that the issue may be with HR practices. When things are good, quotas are high. When things arent so good, expectations are lowered. I think they still are on the high and haven’t yet switched gears.
Our company has more applicants than jobs available. Way over qualified people are applying for laborer/helper positions. We hired one last week, at his interview he told me he had a job lined up (rental store yard guy) but they rejected him on a background check. He has a pending traffic case thats been postponed 4 times by the prosecutor.

Because retailers and inherently cheap when it comes to wages. Not an issue around here, Grocery stores are all unionized and pay competitive wages and have no shortage of help. We even have baggers here and they will push the cart to your buggy and help load in the groceries if you are old or handicapped.
