Well I do not smoke, so no, the world is not MY ashtray.

Yes I agree, I get just as pissed when I see someone throw their butt out the window as I do when they throw their coke bottle out.
We were clearing fencerows last year and came across a stash of old fertlizer bags. At the time, we used to go to the plant 15mi away with the pickup, and get fertlizer for planting corn, and of course what to do with all those plastic bags - set them aside on the fencerow with a rock over them. This would have been in the 60s, so 60yrs ago. What we found looked like new. A trip down memory lane.
At least all the junk along the roads can be seen and picked up to be disposed of "properly". But what does properly mean - more hidden?
There is a driveway to one of the fields here that is just far enough away from anyone that it seems to attract would be dumpers. Finally I just started hauling all of it out and set it by the road - as in- damn near on the road. A furnace and pile of tires among other things sat there for two months before someone (county) came and got it. The thing is, everyone around had to look at it, all of it, including the yayhoos that did it.

Tires and vehicles followed by furniture dot the landscape.

The cost of scrap metal must be down because some abandoned vehicles sit months on public property...

The cities had a real problem with vehicles before when scrap was low and then the problem self corrected when scrap was at an all time high as anything metal was candidate for theft... even guardrails.

Based on what I read on this thread, it seems to me being a land owner in rural America can be a real pain: the more acreage fronting county roads one has, the more litter to pick up. This problem was not apparent to me whenever I drove through rural America. You folks must have picked it all up.

Its about the same in the city... but average has more hiding places...

A side note... about 20 years ago I receive a huge to me bill for city trash collection stating if not paid a lien would follow.

I took the bill to city hall along with a copy of my police report showing I had reported illegal dumping the day prior and mentioning appliances and furniture.

Without police report in hand I probably would have been on hook for $450...

When I was a kid it seemed like there were cigarette butts everywhere, now not so many butts but still too many beer cans along my road. Several years ago somebody dumped a Meth. lab down the road, now nobody cooks because mexican meth is cheap.
Another American job lost to Mexico.

I've never had much of a problem. It's usually just a few hunters in the fall. Looking for new areas to hunt.

In the fall the ground can be very wet, soggy and muddy. A few have learned an expensive lesson. Drive off my driveway - out into the neighbors fields - you are VERY likely to get stuck.

And NO - I will NOT come pull your vehicle out with my tractor. Not for any amount - $$$$.

They can call the local wrecker service and deal with it that way.

They came thru my outer gate - right past the BIG NO Trespassing sign - the solution is their problem.
