Bad Dogs Bad Neighbor

Drive by their house at night and throw out sponges soaked in bacon grease. Dogs try to eat them and choke to death. I have no use for a mean dog. The 26 year old? Hood, gloves, and patience.
I wish those kind of thoughts would be kept private and if possible, surpressed in favor of more civilized solutions.

Here is the big question I have for the OP...

Are these idiot neighbors local to the area, or are they those dang relocated city folk? Everyone knows how REAL country folk respect their neighbors and are right neighborly 😁

Honestly, city or country, you will always have idiots.

Have you tried just talking to them and see if you can come up with a mutual agreement they leave you alone you leave them alone?

We had a run in with the people down the road 1/2 mile or so because they would not restrain their 2 large dogs. The kids or wife or myself go for a walk ride a bike etc. and the dogs chase and growl and scare the kids. Neighbors were not interested in keeping their dogs restrained. After the NYSP intervened we have just avoided walking that way if the dogs are out. Now the son 26 years old has been vandalizing our mailbox for a year or more. Leaves used condoms, liquor bottles full of urine and the latest party trick bags of feces. I have him on film and video and have filed a report with NY state police so far nothing has happened and the SOB just did it again on Sunday in broad daylight. I am looking for ideas for non-lethal ways to deter this scum bag until the cops can do something to help. I also filed an online claim with the postal service. Very frustrating and annoying.
If you have video of him messing with the mailbox, contact the Postal Inspectors. Most people don't know this but, USPS has a uniformed Postal Police Service to deal with postal crime. Messing with a mailbox as you describe is a federal crime. At a minimum, they'll come have a conversation with him, which will probably stop that part at least.

Put a big ass snake in your mailbox see how he likes that.

Sorry if this has already been mentioned.

Don't spend money on lawyers, etc. You don't even have to involve the local LEOs. You have a Federal Government organization at your disposal.

Report this to the United States Postal Service. The mailbox is technically controlled by USPS. Start at your Regional USPS office. If they hesitate to assist, ask for their Superior's information and contact them. You won't have to elevate this very far to get results. USPS will push prosecution.

Let us know how this works out. People are the nastiest specie on Planet Earth.

I've been on the opposite end of that spectrum. Dude owned the property down the street for years. Let his dog go wherever and refused to take responsibility for it.

Even after being told that if it comes onto the property again and heads for our 2yo grandson acting aggressive we would be forced to shoot it.

Sent the police down to talk to them. Other neighbors talked to them.

A couple people visiting us took him to court over damages that his dog did to there cars on our property.

I ended up putting the dog down. Got dragged into court over it.

Dude acted like a self riotous pr#ck after it happened. Balling and couldn't believe that his dog got shot.

Well, when people are telling you your dogs going onto other people property and going after kids and damaging vehicles, what do you expect???

I won the court case but it was a royal PITA.

They put the ordinance into effect shortly after our court case. It gives home owners more options as well as forcing pet owners to take responsibility for their animals. As well as holding said pet owners liable.

I should have read down before I posted. Well stated.

It's amazing how many people out there have that type of attitude. There was a case downstate a couple of years ago where somebody took their dog for a walk and he disappeared, as he was prone to do. They found his tracking collar in the river, but didn't find the dog until it was struck by a car and killed... about 50 miles away. Apparently somebody got tired of it showing up, and took it for a ride with tragic results. It sounded like a nice dog yet who knows what kind of mayhem it was getting into while running lose.

I wouldn't have had a problem if the dog was friendly. But when it shows being aggressive, and damaging vehicles..... that's a whole different animal.

We had routine visits from a Siberia husky that was an absolute sweet heart. I looked forward to her visits.

One of my neighbors has a German Shepherd that she let's run loose. He stays within 50ft of her. She doesn't let him off leash till she gets to certain spots on her walk. Then he's allowed to run loose for a bit till she gets into another neighborhood.

On days that she doesn't have to work, she takes him to a mountain bike trail that is used very little. She will let him off leash there as well.

I think the difference though, is that he listens to her, is trained to stay within a certain distance of her, and he's always within her site.

He's also an absolute sweet heart.

If your gonna do something like that, you need to be responsible as well as the proper training for the pooch.

When I was building our garage addition last year, I was hunched down working on something and all of a sudden I hear a dog panting next to my head. I look over and the neighbor's german shepard that is always chained up and barking wildly at me is standing there about 6" from my face. YIKES!

I calmly said "Hello." and he immediately started slobbering up the side of my face. Whew! Dog had the drop on me! 🤣

Since then, we are best buds.

The law should be that you must get a permit to own a dog, and only one dog per household. And that permit can be revoked with enough complaints.

I don't know exactly what happened in the case that I cited and as near as I can tell, only one person does. It's still an open investigation. Perhaps somebody stole the dog and it was trying to find it's way home. I've always suspected it got into somebody's livestock or poultry one time too many, and that person "took it for a ride."

The USPIS is the right first step as many of us have suggested, but keep in mind they may not be too helpful as far as paying a visit. They may send a letter (ha!) at least.

But for reasons we can't go into here in depth, they've been neutered (ha!) in what they can do and where. They were told not to do too much regarding things that happen off USPS property or don't directly involve bad acts of USPS employees.

Similar experience when I met the neighbors Siberian husky. Was changing out the blades on my mower. On my back, and noticed some paws come by then a head peaking under the mower at me. I asked her if we were gonna be friends???

Darn dog eventually had me trained to give her a ride home

Go for a walk. Take a gun. If the dogs are on public property and act aggressive, shoot to kill the dog. Better yet, take a video of the dogs actions.

Dog is the owners responsibility.

Sorry to say, you have butthole neighbors.
Shooting a dog is a felony in most states.

Bring a gun is almost always a bad idea.
In NY you can be arrested for thinking about a gun!

:D

I had lost most of my laying hens to a fox. I found some replacements but didn't let them out of their pen for a couple of months. One day I was going to be working nearby and the fox pups had grown enough so that she didn't need to feed them. I decided to let them out, then went up to work in the garden. Not half an hour later I looked down to see a big white dog at the henhouse. It was the neighbor's Brittany, out for a walk; he just sniffed around and went on his way. I haven't seen him around before or since. It's 1/2 mile in a straight line from his house to my chicken coop, I guess that he had just decided to go for a stroll that day.
