in a forum on FB I belong to, the age old argument got going about sealing hydraulic joints. In particular the use of Teflon tape on hydraulic fittings. I say NO don’t use the stuff, as it can get into things causing issues. Only use a good pipe Dope.

what say you?

I would not use either one on AC. Use Nylog Gasket and Thread Sealant. Would use pipe joint on gas pipes, both galvanized and black iron. maybe Teflon tape on plastic threads. I think I prefer dope on pipe threads under high pressure.

I wouldn't want to put anything on hydraulic fittings.

I might use Teflon on fittings for air compressor lines.

Only yellow dope approved for gas lines on gas lines and would also use on water lines.

But some are NPT and require some sort of sealant. I understand certain fittings require nothing, but at the very least a NPT style would need a good quality pipe Dope.

There are some guys here who are hydraulics experts that can certainly give better information than me.

Only on tapered threads.

Maybe I've been lucky but when that's all I got lying around I use it I'll start a thread or two back from the end of the opening and wrap clockwise so it doesn't unwrap when your tightening it.

I used Teflon pipe dope on a O ring boss fitting on my Bercomax snowblower attachment . It was a desperation attempt after finding the fitting stripped from the factory . It allowed me to seal the fitting better and save the day and the hydraulic cylinder . My problem solved
Yes, but would you use it if your fittings where fine

i use it, as others have said, stay a couple threads back and dont over do it, and once you tighten the thread, leave it alone, if you take it off and on it will come apart and little bits will get into the system, if you do have to remove it.... start all over by cleaning every bit of it off and put fresh on. only about two wraps, three max, ive never had an issue.
