Mahindra 5155 Anyone?

Hi all.
Been following this thread since I decided to buy the 5145. I'm in the pnw and we bought ours to clear logging slash, establish a large garden/farm and feed our sawmill logs. Really like your skidder attatchments, I ordered a cheap 3 pt lift/skidder off amazon. We will see if it works, our log diameters go up to over 5 feet. Grapple (Baeber) and third function valve are ordered through our local dealer and picked up pallet forks this week.
We picked up the tractor yesterday! What a tractor, love it. The shifting is so much more intuitive for me than I thought it would be, way better than hydro.
Few things I have issues with, bucket level rod fell off, no grease in any fitting, there were some random bolts in the cock pit, hazards switch doesn't work (lights came on at 2am last night) if you push or pull it sometimes they will flash once, clutch has a "catch" to it- you have to push it and move the shuttle to get it to fully disengage, starting can be a test of patience.
I think dealer is ultimately responsible. The only 5145 in the state was not our local dealer, I'm sure when we take it in for the third function our local guys will get it dialed in.
I will try to adjust the clutch and see if that will take care of it.

Nice tractor! Sounds like it should be great for your chosen applications once you get the bugs straightened out. Dealer is definitely responsible for all of that stuff, it should never have left the dealership in that condition. Have you greased the fittings yet? If not, definitely do so before you operate it further. Your pins and bearings will thank you down the road.

As for the clutch - definitely start by making sure that gets greased as well. Below the clutch pedal, on the floorboard, under the rubber floor mat, you'll find two grease fittings. These lubricate your clutch rods and linkage. If the rest of the tractor never got any grease, chances are that linkage didn't either and that could be part of your problem. The clutch pedal should operate smoothly throughout it's entire throw of travel. Put some grease to it - fully depress and release the clutch pedal a couple times - then add a little more grease. It should start to smooth out.

Also, since the dealer apparently did a half-ass job assembling your tractor chances are your clutch and shift linkages need to be adjusted as well. Information on how to do the clutch can be found on pg. 7-20 of your owners manual. It's very easy. As for the shift linkage, you won't find anything in the manual, but I found how to adjust it beneath the tractor and posted about it earlier in this thread.

Congrats on the new 5145, though! They're awesome machines.

My 5155 came with two sets of quick connect male ends to attach to an implement of choice. They are 1/2" AG fittings. The fittings on the tractor are called breakaway fittings - nothing to push or pull on the tractor side. To connect the fittings, firmly push the male fitting (implement side) into the tractor-side female. It'll pop into place and attach securely. To disconnect, just give it a firm yank. It'll pop loose without leaking hardly anything.

They are designed that way to prevent damage to the tractor's hydraulic lines in case the implement lines were to ever become tangled in a spinning PTO shaft. But, they work really well for easy connect/disconnect, too. Honestly, I went through the same thing when I first used them because I'd never had factory-installed remotes before. But yeah, just shove the male fitting in to connect them and pull it out to disconnect - easy.




Really! Funny, I did the same thing and calculated an estimated weight using the weights listed in the manual plus the loaded tires - came out to 7,996 lbs. My old 4540 weighed 7,496 lbs., and I was accustomed to the way my pickup behaved while towing it. Towing the 5155 home I kept thinking to myself, "This thing is definitely more than 500 lbs. heavier." That would explain why! So, thank you for doing that, Andy! That's good to know.

Walt...thank you so much for the info on the rear remotes. I tried it and it worked just as you said. Haven't seen those before but it's a great idea to prevent further damage if something happens to the hydraulic lines on the implement side.

No problem! Like I said, I went through the same thing the first time I tried to use them. Yeah, they're pretty handy.

OK Walt and all others, try this one. Walt mentioned that the main clutch and PTO clutch linkages need to be greased and that the zerks are under the floormat in front of the clutch. This is shown in the lube photo in the owners manual. I went to look on my 5155 and found it is nothing like the photo. No zerks are evident as in the photo and lifting the floormat would be a major task. See my photos attached. The only thing I can think of is to cut the tops off the two raised circles and hope the zerks are there. Any advice?

You need to peel back the rubber mat.

Also, from the Mahindra Tractor Owners - USA group on Facebook, there is a discussion about front axles on Mahindra tractors after one 1635 broke apart at the hub and one comment by a tractor mechanic is, "Mahindra, and all the other tractor brands have a front axle rating. You’ll find the spec in your manual. Although Mahindra is built heavy, the front axle rating is much below what it takes to teeter-totter a tractor on the front end." This comment was not regarding the 5145/5155 specifically but I could not find a front axle load spec in my manual. Just wanted to share the info and suggest checking bolts at the hub. Might also want to join that group on Facebook.

Well, it didn't look like it was possible since it was attached to the nearby sidewall but it can be released from the sidewall and be peeled back just enough to service the two zerks. The dealer had done that. Thanks for what should have been obvious to me.

You have to lift the floormat to get to them, I recall thinking it wasn't too much of a process at all. In your photos, you can see two round, gray plastic pieces just below the "Instructions" sticker. They are simple push tabs and they hold the floormat in place. Use a flathead screwdriver or similar tool to pop them out, then the floormat will lift free enough to access those fittings.

The floormat looks like the clutch linkage goes through it, but it does not. The mat is sleeved and will pull away from the linkage easily.
