Then why was America the dominant industrial power from the 40’s until the 90’s and then when NAFTA hit in the 90’s, it all ended?

Actually most of the illegals are from Guatemala and other Central America countries. Yes there are lots of Mexican farm laborers, but they are seasonal (and in high demand by US growers).
