5145, 50 hour service

I said in the post....the 4 bolts under each cradle of the fel....both sides total of 8 bolts were loose

Have any of y'all had a problem with cleaning the paint off of the PTO shaft? If so, how did you get the shaft clean enough for the drive line to slip on?

The coupler slides on just fine now. This afternoon I tried a putty knife to get the paint off, no luck. I engaged the PTO shaft and while it was turning I used a welders wire brush, no luck. Next I got a pocket knife (one I was not fond of) and used it to whittle the baked on paint off, it worked. The next step was to clean in the groove of the spline, but before I did this I tried to slide the coupler on. "IT SLID RIGHT ON" just like on the old Massey.

Had the dealer do the 50 hour service today. The total came to $399.27. This is the the list of parts.

006016642V91 = oil filter
006000455F1 = outer air filter
006000456F1 = inner air filter
006038451V01 = fuel filter
007202702C1 = spin on hydraulic filter
407352R5 = engine oil

The price on the spin on filter was $108.61 so I am sure it included hydraulic fluid.
I did not look at the ticket till after I got to the house cause my lunch must have made me sick. Something made me a sick old man. I'll be calling them tomorrow to ask some questions just so I'll know.

You are correct. I called this morning to be sure. Plus I was told the part number has changed and the price went up about 12 to 15 dollars higher. But I was told they had several on the shelf and as long as they lasted the price would remain at $108.68.

just curious, why did they replace the air filters, don't think they are called out in the manual, just clean and check.

I asked the same question to the shop foreman (or what ever his title is). I actually got no answer other than a precaution. The mechanic was curious also but he did what he was told. I "do" have the air filters that were removed. The mechanic brought them out to me before I left. In fact I was in the truck to leave. Other than that my experience was very good. As a matter of fact I was given 38 reloaded .410 shells. .410 shells are hard to buy around here.

No, a 5 gallon bucket of Mahindra hydro oil is $129. They may have topped it off however but check the level yourself to see if it is up to snuff. Also, check the fluid level in the front axle if they didn't do it.
You don't really need to change out the hydro fluid at 50hrs as it doesn't degrade or pick up much moisture in that time.
Any minute contaminates are readily picked up by filtering.

That's still a pretty good price so I'm wondering what their hourly rate was.
Here in the east, we'd get about $250 labor for the two hrs or so we spend for a complete service but that includes draining and filling w new fluids including front axle, coolant check, checking bolt torque specs, regreasing, tire pressure check, filter clean or replace, brake and clutch rod adjustment and proper toe in adjustment along with 3 pt drop adjustment and then cleaning the tractor.
Done carefully, all this stuff takes some time.
Just the labor and new hydraulic fluid would come to at least $500 by themselves here.

Save your old air filters if they are not compromised in any way and blow them out gently from the inside and reuse them next year. They are the most important filters on your tractor.

May have been damaged. We have found several damaged filters at the 50 hr. Otherwise that's what we do as stated in the shop manual.

Since you mentioned the front axle, one of the young men who helped me load & unload told me to "watch" for any leakage on the front axle. Said there was one in the shop as we spoke with a broken front axle housing. (that was the end of the conversation).

The flat rate garage time is $135.00 per hour. They do not charge labor on 50 hour service. If I had done the service myself the fluid filters would have been free. I was not physically able to do it, although I considered it. Back in the early '80s I worked as a mechanic in a Massey Ferguson dealership. My trade was Mechanic/Millwright/Welder.

I do have the old filters.

The front axle on these are pretty stout. Perhaps a casting defect on the one in the shop.
We've not had one of this line back for any reason except for service but that means nothing to me as I am a believer that if man is involved, things can break no matter what the brand or what the machinery.
Be astute in operation and cross your fingers that yours doesn't because that is the only meaningful aspect of any brand...yours.

Just a quick note, I decided to check my loader bolts on my 5145 , the 3 in the front with lockwashers we're tight, however the 4 further back(under loader cradle) were all loose, I just hit 100 hrs, I put a dab of orange removable locktight and re torqued

Did you have witness marks on all of your bolts from the dealer?

Angle grinder with a wire wheel. Then I sprayed it with fluid film to keep the corrosion to a minimum.
