sister's power is on but not some of her neighbors.
Lot of folks without power in CA right now
I bet RNG has this site on his pc...

similar map provided by PECO. Maybe they buy the software from same place. Nice you can click on your house and it will give status update, of sorts.

frits, my MB rv had a 188hp diesel that was surprisingly peppy. Granted small rv. Sounds like you have a big truck engine in your van.
at the moment I'm envious of your towing ability...

I have the same engine in the van. Agree it is peppy for the size engine and HP. But it is not good for heavy duty towing
The dually truck is the tow vehicle.

Your service area is likely by PSEG> The recent expansion of the Sewaren station to replace the old coal fired plants should have been good for reliability of the electrical system. I had some experience with PSEG where we relocated two 400 MW plants to Saudi Arabia

riptides

BTW, woodchuckdad on TBN recently installed a Mr Cool, this is 2nd of 2 part video I think.
Thanks.

My issues are, I don't go near electric. I ended up wiring the Milk House, but not hooking anything up to the panel. So I needed a pro for the panel work, breakers and whatnot.

Then the Milk House itself, its generously applied concrete over steel mesh over petrified true 2X8's or 2Xx2. Getting the holes into the walls for electric boxes and Mr. Cool are most challenging. Yesterday it took the better part of the day hanging the in door unit. 95 percent of the day was drilling the Mr. Cool holes. LOL.

Here is the template work that was used to pre-drill everything and the new access hole for the lines.

Here is a small victory. (you can see my problematic electrical outlet hole in the wall, not more than four feet to its right, I had no issue running the line).

No, not the phone company. This company started out doing phone and cell phone services. They dropped all the phone service about a year ago.

Now they do nothing but fiber optic internet. We have their "mid" package which is up to a gig download speed, for $85 a month, including 2 additional mesh routers. No charge for install or equipment.

We still have 6 pair copper coming in, but don't use it at all.
We use our POTS line for any customer service temp calls, because you never know if it will kill the battery just as they finally pick up, or if a bird flies past the cell tower and we go from maybe-two bars down to zero. . .

22 outside right now, heading to mid 40's. Should be a nice day for more outside work. Rain should move in towards the evening.

I hope to finish the line work and close up with insulation and foam board the remaining side of the Milk House today.

If I can cut some firewood up, I will have met my goals for the weekend. Definitely not as busy as the rest of the GM crew. I need to step it up many notches.

Hope all have a good day, be safe.

Check your local Community College - some of them have classes for homeowners, and putting in a breaker is really not as bad as you may think. Of course, there are also potential issues about local permit requirements. . .

Great job locating MR Cool. Hopefully you can locate the outside unit so you don't have to coil up the line set

PECO on our side of River, PSEG on NJ side. I worked for a small supplier of parts and measuring equipment (Schlumberger) into the power production industry, mostly turbine parts.
Because my boss was an old GE turbine engineer. Called on a number of PSEG plants, do not fondly remember Edison NJ. My eyes would always be red and itchy after several hours in that area.
That whole area around Newark airport and the Turnpike, the cogen plant, all adds up to some nasty air pollution.
High voltage lines cross the Delaware in many areas, so yes, the grid I guess includes PSEG.

always liked machinery. And power plants have some seriously cool machines. Being near a running turbine in a steam plant is fun.
Being near a kerosene fired gas turbine, basically a giant version of our home generators, using what PSEG at least used to use Pratt & Whitney
jet turbines hooked up to a generator. Noisy, very noisy. And the exhaust was yellowish brown. No emissions. Reminded me of a B-52, very dirty airplane.
maybe now they have all been retrofitted with emissions controls. Hopefully. These are peaking units, the very last ones to come on.

still makes me feel a little eerie looking at Limerick cooling towers, out in the middle of an increasingly populated area.
but nuclear, or fusion, is our future. I don't think we can build enough solar panels or windmills fast enough. And they all, ultimately, look ugly.
C'mon fusion. Clean energy first.

but until then, let's make what we have works. Let's not imitate California...

I reminded my sister's husband to go check oil level in their whole house gen. Those two are not mechanical at all, arty.
But he did my avatar so he is forever in my debt. My sister has been getting my mechanical advice for a long time.
She knows I research stuff. Spent a lot of time with them spec'ing out their Generac 22kw gen. Which has been running a lot in the last few days in Muir Beach CA.

Rain interfered with install, but at least I have the materials. I did get the hole drilled in to wall to the outside 😁👍 AND was able to do some figgerin’ and figgered a better way of raising the mast than my original plan, AND was actually able to do a sortakinda mock-up mast-raising because a couple months ago I bought a Silky tree pruning saw with the 21’ telescoping handle — and the mast will be 22’, so the tip of the blade is about the height of Dishy when it is laying flat.

Mockups are a good thing!
