12 to 18 month wait for new vehicle!!

I looked at the new Tundras and they are nice and will pull a house off the foundation but too much truck for my use. Just got one small trailer to pull and the Tacoma has ample room for what I need. The prices for new trucks are what they are, even if the availability gets better, the price sure as hell ain’t going down. Some Ford and GM dealers are adding several thousand to the MSRP just because they can. Folks that go ahead and pay that inflated dealer price (which is not the MSRP factory price) got nothing to ***** about.
It was the same way with the housing market 2 years ago. Pay over the appraised value, with no inspection. I believe that those birdies are coming home to roost.

What irked me the most was here in Arkansas I had to pay the 7% new car sales tax, sales tax and tags came to $2980, dang !!! Don’t what the % is in other states though, maybe I got off easy.

I think my neighbor told my son he gave like $80,000 for an F-150 Black Window edition.
LOL

Stupid money for a light duty pickup with a bunch of decals on it I wouldn’t even want to ride in.
And worth 40k on year 2...

Last year's models but at least they are knocking off something.
Yes, but just give it a couple more months and they'll have same or similar deals on 2023's. Now that the inventory is starting to build, interest rates (non-automotive) are up, Better deals will be coming.

This was an email from another dealer in December,

New 2022 Ford

Big change in the availability of a Toyota forerunner limited. In December 2020 I bought a 2021 Ltd, and they had it sitting right there on the lot. Just for curiosity I called a Toyota dealer today and they said I would now have to wait at least eight months, and pay $11,000 more!😯

Shockingly, not necessarily. I went to look at an f250 which originally cost 80k, it was 3 years old, and it was listed for 68k. It seems that cars less than 5 years old are holding their value a great deal more.

The vehicle shortages can have some benefits. I pulled my 2020 Ram into the dealership for some warranty work and a salesman approached my vehicle before I even opened the door. Wanted to buy my truck on the spot for over $70,000.

Around here it's still going to be rusted out in 15 years. All of that fancy stuff won't make it last 1 mile farther down the road.

My friend the auto salesman says 75% of his customers never ask the price. They only care about the monthly payment amount. No intention of ever "owning" their vehicle.

I miss the "good ole days" when you could brouse the dealership lot and point to a car and say, "I want that one". Then drive it home or pick it up the next day after makeready. I would never buy a new car I had to wait over a year to own. Unless they discounted it by about 20-25% due to loss of value in a model year. That's just plain silly. Who wants to buy new car that's a year old or more? I guess I won't be buying any more new vehicles. :cautious:

I struggle with that as well.

Someone mentioned earlier the rebates on '22 model F150s. Did those trucks sit on a huge parking lot somewhere for a year waiting on a computer chip?

One of my friends admits he does this. He doesn’t care the debt load… he just wants a payment under $1200/mo

Hal says a noticeable percentage of his clients are in the dealership getting a "major" repair done, could be as small as $1K. They end up killing time in the showroom. He's not a vulture, lets them come to him. Many times he'll trade them into a new vehicle while theirs is being repaired. All based on the monthly payment.

Not throwing stones here. This is one of many things that our society fails at. No plan to ever be financially independent. Those same people go into retirement worried about whether their retirement funds will make the monthly payments.

This is true. We don’t borrow, so what we pay for an item, hurts. I see it. I feel it. The new pole barn… cash. The new tractor… Cash. A new (used) car this year… cash. If I can get a better deal by financing, I will, then pay it off the next month 😂

We built a new house and shop 4 years ago. Went over budget by $80K. Had to finance that thru our local bank rather than pull money out of our retirement fund. Lived like paupers for 14 months and paid it off. Bugged the hell out of me....

Yikes! Then I KNOW I won't be buying a new vehicle. o_O I can put that $1200 to better use.

My youngest daughter is needing a new vehicle because the one she has now, a Toyota 4Runner, does not meet her family's new requirements. Their vehicle requirements have changed because they are expecting a third child and they have a tractor that needs to be trailered forty miles to her husband's mother's farm. The tractor and loader weigh around 4000 pounds. So after careful internet research they settled on a Toyota Sequoia for their needs. After visiting and calling several dealers the best they can do is to order one and wait twelve to eighteen months!

So they have a problem. I told them to keep what they have and borrow my towing package equipped F150 on the rare instances when they needed to move the tractor. They can leave the Tesla for me to drive. I'm no dummy, I love driving that thing.

I also suggested to get a minivan for the kids and borrow my truck when needed. That got me cold stares and silence for a minute before they started talking again. Other daughter has one, a Toyota Sienna, and says she will never have anything else. But for some reason they do not want one.

I find the situation amusing!

RSKY

There is another option. Stop drinking the Toyota kool-aid and go buy another brand, which in my experience will likely be a better vehicle anyhow, have lower insurance rates, have lower future repair costs, and will be less expensive to purchase up front.

I see Jeep Wagoneers and Chevy Tahoes at every corner. No shortages.

P.S. I love Possum Trot and Calvert City. What an interesting place. Almost married a girl from there after college. That's a long story :D

Hell we have been looking at cars as far away as Miami. I can fly there for free, and road trip home. These days you can get a vehicle almost anywhere if you really want the vehicle.
I wish I could do that. Around here, the Ford, GM and Chrysler dealerships all have a two tier service / warranty policy. If you didn't buy from them, you go to the back of the line and can wait a month or more to get your vehicle serviced.

They all deny it, but it's a fact.
