This morning's rain got quiet all of a sudden...

This is only about the third or fourth time I've seen snow here!

:eek:RNG, are you saying that you gotta pay tax on the 'relief payments'? I will just bet that the payments come in at about 40-50% LESS than what the materials will cost to rebuild. They've got you coming and going.
There is no rebuilding. Most of the loss was in landscaping that I won't replace, and trees that would take generations to mature even if they did get planted. I won't live that long. The part of the settlement for "emotional distress" is apparently taxable. That amounts to about 35% of my settlement. I already made an estimated payment for the portion I received last year, but it would be a huge help to get it back.

Apparently my sons job offer is a scam. There were some red flags so I started investigating. Fortunately he didn’t give them any personal data yet, which appears to be what they were after.

Wow, glad you caught that before it became serious. Crazy stuff.

Yea, he applied on LinkedIn. Several red flags to me. Initially
-Too high of salary
-I was expecting the initial questionnaire to be a prescreening, they answered with an offer without a phone conversation.

More red flags after looking them up,
-They used a legitimate company, but created a “company”careers.com domain , I looked it up, it was created 2 days ago in Canada.
-I went to the legitimate company LinkedIn site and they posted a warning about someone posing as them, so they already knew.
-wording in the email sounded wrong like you see in scams
-their email had no phone number to contact them.
-email did not have the company logo

I want him to lead them on and see what they ask for next. I expect they will want bank info to set up direct deposit, and of course SSN.
Fortunately he hasn’t even given them his address.
Right now they want him to send Full name, address, phone number and email address “so that HR can register you”. (They already have 3 of the 4)

Kilroy - any concern about the steel wool rusting out?

Thanks, Drew.
Anxious for all this rain to end so I can finish my tractor shed extension. Totally unusable weatherwise right now, but I am seriously pleased with the increased PV production.

spent all afternoon making reservations for rv trip. Had to change the one in Maryland, now staying at KOA near Antietam battlefield.
UPS said rv toilet now showing up tomorrow. I hope they didn't lose or break it...

after making all the reservations, brought the Garmin gps in and entered all the locations.
I love the campgrounds that say don't follow your gps, do this. Ok...trick is just to stay on main roads no matter what the lady
in the machine says.

new noise cancelling earbuds came in, charged them up, need to go drive with them and see if they work as well as over the ear.

going to be cold tonight down to 23, cold tomorrow, then warming up a little on Sunday.
not much planned for tomorrow, might make a Costco run but probably will wait until Monday.

Dump and town run done. I didn't plow. The Moroso hydraulic oil heater came in and it is 1.5 inches too short and the diameter of it is 0.625". About 1/8" too fat. I will keep it as I can use it in the one gallon engine oil jugs for when I change the oil.
The temperature tonight is going down into the single digits minus. It is 0°F right now. Tonight might just be our last really cold night for this winter, I hope.

Good (Saturday) morning. Overnight Low(?) of 17C and it's presently 27.3C... heading to +30C temps. It's clear and calm, however some rain is predicted this evening with a cold front moving in.

A lovely day was had yesterday. I finished off mowing the front paddock, then loaded up the ute's bed with some large broken branches and added them to the 'pile'. Seeing as I was low on petrol for the Z-turn and the ute was down to half a tank, I made a run into town and topped the ute & 20ltr 'can' up. It was such a beautiful day that I then drove out to Pyengana and bought some cheese.

When I got home I found that the front paddock gates were shut, which meant that 'Mad Horse Agisting Woman's' daughter was here... which was a bit of a surprise as she was here the day before getting a riding lesson. Well, that lesson went so well that the 'instructor' (friend from Pyengana) came out again to 'follow-up'. I joined them at the side of the arena (with a glass of shiraz)((instructor & 'mother' already had a libation in hand)) for great conversation whilst the daughter received instruction.

I'll probably (bravely) hide in the house today due to the outside temps.

That's about it, take care all.

The one I found called Hagerstown Antietam battlefield KOA isn’t all that close to the battlefield.
Depending on the day, I can come over and take you to the battlefield. Maybe eat at south mountain inn. It’s on the AT, so Wngsprd can hike in and join.
Campground probably 40 minutes from me.

Dad got his furnace fixed, $200 control board.

Need to feed the pellet stove soon.
Wife almost killed Tiger today, she turned around and he jumped up on counter and started eating her lunch.
He had to take pretty evasive measures to get away.

Currently 24F and clear @ 21:00, calling for a low 22F for the overnight low.

Well, slight change in plans: wasn't too long after I made this morning's post Woman requested I head down to the pharmacy and pick her up some Tylenol and a COVID test.

So I did ... and She tested positive.

So - after some discussion - She called the Doctor's office, reported the result, and was given some runaround about needing to go down to the pharmacy and get a PCR test done because they wouldn't accept a home test result - which of course would take several days to get the results from - before they would prescribe Paxlovid.

I sat on that for about half an hour, before I headed out to the garage and made the call to the doctors office myself.

It did not go well ... mostly for the person on the receiving end ... :giggle:

It started with her being unable to pull The Woman's chart up, then there was the confusion over the name, then was it her name or my name ?

Eventually, I got tired of playing that game and told the lady on the other end I was getting a little bit ticked off and relayed the runaround The Woman got when She called and told this person I didn't understand the issue:

1. Woman is >65 years of age (so "high risk")

2. and therefore meets CDC/HHS criteria for a prescription for Paxlovid.

3. There is no cost to the healthcare provider, in fact the cost is covered by the taxes we pay (government funded)

At several points during that exchange this poor individual made the utterly fatal mistake of interrupting and cutting me off while I was speaking ... which only pizzed me off even more. A very bad move.

At which point I let her have it:

4. It's Friday (aka "the weekend") ... and you guys are telling Her that She needs to schedule an appointment with the local pharmacy and go in (potentially spreading virus) and get a PCR test done ... and then wait for the results to come back on that (couple of days ?)... before prescribing what could potentially be a life-saving treatment that is only effective early on, after the initial appearance of symptoms ???

(Paxlovid is largely effective if taken within the first five days of onset of symptoms (the clinical trials had everyone taking it within the first 3 days apparently), with better outcomes the earlier it's taken)

Really ?

It got quiet on the other end and the conversation ended with her saying that it had been passed to X (whoever makes the decision) for review and they were waiting to hear back.

Well ... that's good.

And so, do you expect to hear back from X today ?

Because I mean that really seems like something the patient in question might be tremendously interested in knowing.

Just asking for a friend. (Don't make me come down there ... 🤬 )

.... yes ...

Excellent !

In around a half an hour I had a call back from that individual letting me know that the 'script had been phoned in to our pharmacy.

Woman had at that point taken some of the Tylenol, was feeling a bit better, and was still trying to navigate the process to set up a PCR test at the pharmacy.

Told Her the 'script had already been phoned in ... ;)

I headed down a little after 17:00 and picked it up and ran by the grocery which is next door and grabbed a few items we needed, and enough victuals to feed for the next week or so. Back in about 30 minutes.

She was up when I got back, took her first dose, expressed some interest in maybe having a piece of toast or two but instead went back to bed.

I fixed some Tuna Tetrazzini for myself which I had never had (but thought was very tasty (y))

Did manage to get tabletop cleared off and about 3/4's sanded with some 120 grit and the orbital.

About to head downstairs for the fixed router base and head back out to the garage ... after I feed the downstairs cat unit.

Hope everyone had a good Friday ... (y)
