Sounds like sphincter clinch #348 on the backhoe. Made the mistake of parking sideways across the slope and swinging a full bucket downhill. The upside wheels lifted and only stopped when the bucket hit the ground. Fortunately I had enough sense to keep the bucket low to begin with.

My own experience was with a Kubota KX mini ... forget if it was the 71 or 91 ...

Digging uphill with the blade in front ... and machine not level (of course ) ... went to swing to the side to dump the spoil ... dropped the boom real quick like.

And then turned it around and dropped the blade and leveled it out.

All good after that.

When they guy delivered the excavator, he said “Keep it clean, don’t scrape the back end, and in ten years you can almost get back all your money on a trade in—- they keep their value if you keep them up.”

And I get the sneaking suspicion that you keep yours in Pristine condition. . .

Mine is same as yours except the cab model and it is 3 years old with 200 hours on the counter. It is in new condition and is always kept inside. I have not kept up with tractor and equipment prices and I am amazed how much they have gone up in the last couple of years.

Steep, rough, narrow, and awkward/tight turning around.

I have several walking trails to blaze through our property.

70 years ago, the lower part was open land for cattle, it is now full of vertical lumber.

And assorted and sundry creepers and runners.

I have started trying to do jump turns, with occasional success.

there are a whole lot of muscle memory pathways to develop!

I kept the x in idle in the beginning to go slow while learning the moves. Kept the bucket low while swinging around with loads to learn the tipping points when swinging around to the sides. Tipping it a few times to learn the limits but with bucket low it is easy to correct. Once the limits were learned then I would rev it up.

Going over steep inclines I would keep the blade low in the back on the downhill side to protect from tipping and extend the boom out front as a counter weight.

Digging on steep slopes I will use the blade to level up. Try to avoid swinging the boom when not level. If need be I will dig a level platform on the slope to place the x on.

Lifting heavy logs I will try to keep it close in and low to be safe. Transporting long logs I will swing to the side to be able to clear through narrow areas.

Transporting is slow even at the high speed. Just the way it is

I use the boom to clear over a ditch to keep it level while traveling out over the ditch

Use the boom and thumb often to take down tree branches on the trail to open up access.

I have dug up large stumps easily by digging and ripping roots all around it and then pulling it. When cutting tress leave 3 or 4 ft to get more leverage on the stump. If it is too heavy to lift I can always push it to where I want it.

Use the X to load the trailer is great because I can lift and index to place it where I want without any fuzz

Usually use the blade in front when digging to prevent the tipping motions with loaded bucket and heavy lifts

Back dragging the blade in float is great for leveling loose soil

Running the tracks over the leveled areas to compact works great

Learning the moves to prevent tearing up the lawn was helpful. The tracks can tear up a lawn really quick.

Learned to grade with the 36 inch bucket without teeth by back dragging similar to using a 4- in-1 bucket.
This takes practice to get the moves down to scrape level without digging in. Practice and practice to get it worked in on auto as much as possible. The regular bucket can also be used for that with the flat side down

Poured first cup of coffee. 39° with clear skies this morning. Heading to 77° with mostly cloudy skies. Got some weeding done around gardens. Did not get weed killer down. To much wind. Maybe get it done today. Plan to mow grass after it dries.

Forgot to mention about taking down trees. Most trees I push over with the boom by placing it up high on the tree trunk to get max leverage and that way it is a two for one by getting the rootball as well. And then use the bucket to scrape off as much dirt as possible from the roots. Sometimes lift it up and drop it to get the soil off and making it lighter for transport. it is surprising the size trees it can take down this way.
I am careful to not to do this on decayed trees to not have the top come down like can happen on old Ash trees.
Leaning the bucket on the tree up high and a gentle push tells me if it will go over easy based on how it feels when pushing.

Good morning to all. (4am CDT) warm, rain. Total here a little over an inch since yesterday, mostly since midnight. You are not allowed to complain about rainfall in Texas, but.... wish we had a dry spell long enough to get a first hay cutting. Still way too wet.

The USAF weapons include the Boeing GBU-57/B MOP (massive ordinance penetrator). This 14-ton, 20 foot long, GPS guided bomb is said to penetrate 200 feet of concrete before exploding the 5300 lbs. of high explosives. One can imagine the usefulness to attack heavily fortified or underground targets.

You'll probably pick up on the controls fairly quickly.

I've found Kubota mini's a breeze to operate ... to the point that I probably wouldn't even consider a different brand.

One thing to watch and be careful of, is having a full bucket (with wet, heavy material) ... with the boom extended ... and then rotating.

Especially on an incline.

Those tracks are longer than they are wide ... so smaller footprint to the sides ...



Typically, when digging on an incline I'd dig as you're doing there: dig towards the uphill side.

But I'd normally position the blade on the downhill side ... and use it to level the machine out flat, with respect to the incline.

Otherwise, on flat ground, I'd have the blade on the side I'm digging on ... and down of course.

Enjoy the seat time ...

I had it that way because I only have a 24” bucket, and I was removing a stump, and I needed to dig around, so it was easier to start on one side and attack first with house at abou 45°, then move to about 90°, then move to the other side of the stump at 90°, then move further and do 45°.

if I had a narrow bucket (or I am seeing lots of YT vids that a ripper is the way to go for stumps ) I would probably have been oriented as you said.

Slept in this morning, Bike ride to start day, Checked up on mower motor, no progress yet. Did not get carp slime cleaned out of boat, did get nap in. Trip to town for dinner and groceries.

Yesterday, I learned the joys of back-dragging in float

today I will try pushing some smaller trees over and see how that goes before trying anything substantial!
