I would be lying if I said that this doesn't make me nervous

After reading the article I started thinking about tools which I nonchalantly toss into my truck. My cordless drill is a staple item, but lately I've added an impact wrench and booster pack. That's not counting how many batteries are around the house, but which will be moved to the shed "just in case." (I'm just getting into the habit of taking them off the charger when they are done.)

Call me paranoid but until I hear more about how this fire started... I'm going to be paranoid. My biggest fear has always been of something happening to my truck or house while my dog is there with no way of getting out.
I only charge my lithium ion tools in the shop, and never, if I can help it for any longer than it takes to charge.

Then again, there is 10kWh is one car, and another 40kWh or so in batteries bolted to a retaining wall away from the house (because of fire risk)....

I don't know why I trust my little lithium ions less than the big ones, but perhaps it is because I know that the little ones have been dropped, run down and have otherwise lead hard lives.

I think that we all will be interested to see if there is anything to be learned from the story. I agree with @ning that the storage conditions sound a lot less than ideal...

Something similar here;
All the best,

Peter

Looks like it was pretty warm last Thursday at 2:30PM.

The location of the truck has the sun shining directly into the back of the truck at that time.
Black truck, probably black bed liner, it could get really hot back there.
Wouldn't mind knowing the brand - wonder if it was a well-known brand or some knock-off battery?
It was a warm day. I was wondering some of the same things which you are. Still, in my pickup I generally carry my impact wrench with 1 or two 6 aH batteries; a small booster pack; and my laptop. I try not to leave it parked in the sun, but on a summer day when the truck is locked up and my dog is with me it can get rather warm in there.

I will say I had a soccer ball explode in the open bed of a green Dakota sitting on a concrete driveway. Scared the @$# out of everyone, bits of ball falling from the sky. Ball had been tossed in the bed to keep it from the dogs.

That's something to remember, and good to know- Wait a minute, I'm not in HS anymore. :devilish:
