The odds of your round flywheel assembly throwing the chain out of the mower deck are significantly lower than in a design where there are rotating arms that could sling a broken chain outwards.

Did you fabricate yours or did you buy this assembly somewhere?

I bought mine. €650 in 2017. Just couldn't beat that price if I were to buy the materials, gearbox, PTO shaft, etc.

I've made one before for the Kubota B7000 I had. That one I used blades because of the low HP available.

The model 12 BH is closer to functioning.
We spent time restoring the drive shaft.
It was so rusted there was no telescopic action. Don't know how anybody used it?
We chained the mower to one post of the lift and pulled from the other using an old chain come along from the 1950s and pulled - hard.
Applied heat, a cheater bar on the come along, and a 6 pound hammer to the situation. and lol - it eventually came apart.
Once we got the shaft apart. We cleaned, greased, and reassembled.
Phew - progress

We are getting close.
My concern now circles around having no front chain guard

I have a 4‘ BushHog squealer 450 I could sacrifice for such a mower. I have thought about this before but being closed in the back I am not sure if it is a good candidate.

Once I hit a rock buried in some grass with a bush hog with no front guard. The bush hog launched it forward under the tractor and somehow managed to hit one of my cows in the leg causing some pretty severe damage on the old gal. You are wise to not under-estimate the danger of not having a front guard.

Noticed yesterday
The rear wheel does not turn 360 degrees. The mower was designed for forward movement only.
Today we will extend the wheel mount 10-14" so the wheel can turn 360º for backing up.
We may do some more skirt repair too.
We have way too much time into this 'experiment':p

Ditch the wheel. It's not doing anything anyways and it will just get bent beyond repair on any decent sized brush. All these cutters need is the side skates and let it ride on the ground.
