What size tractor can we get by with?

FYI, Kubota is still offering 0 percent financing for 84 months on select models of their tractors and implements. Just got the flyer in the mail today. Not sure how they are doing it, but they are.

One thing I'd never do is have some shade tree off the wall repair shop work on my units. One, they are too expensive to begin with and two, I want a factory trained and certified mechanic to do any work that I cannot do myself. Just how I roll. That especially pertains to ANY emissions related issues.

so, you feel the HST better for moving snow.
Please tell us where your property is. Kind of puts everything in context/visualization.

About snow removal: Wet, heavy snow, especially anything approaching 4 feet of it, is a big bad chore. If that is a significant % of your needs that definitely lobbies for a larger machine, for AG tread tires, and mandatory 4WD. How long is the drive/large is the area you will need to clear of heavy snow? My thinking is that you are going to need a FEL with or without snow. That probably means you will want a rear mounted PTO driven snow blower. The combo of a front end loader and a rear blower can handle most any snow chore and will not add a huge expense either. You being 70 I'm about 10 years your senior and you have to take into account what you will be able to hitch and unhitch by yourself too. I advise keeping it as simple as you can.

About the snow blowing: you need either a creeper gear (very low gearing) which for example exists on all Kubota B2150's both HST and geared, or else use an HST that allows very slow operation without slipping a clutch all the time. I use creeper gear on one of my B2150s when snow blowing and it is "the right stuff."

Zero % financing is the same as not giving you an equivalent (calculated) amount off the price. Several hundred dollars depending on the price ballpark. All dealers nationwide, be it cars, trucks or tractors are doing the same thing as if the public cannot see through it: Trading sale price for interest on borrowed money. And much of the public fails to see through it. Any such failure to quickly see it is money in the pocket of the seller.

Buy the cheapest used geared tractor you can find that will run the implements you want. Doesn't matter what you choose. When it dies buy another one. Park the old one on your front lawn.
That sounds like an apt description for many of my neighbors

someone should post a survey thread: how many of you wished you had gone larger in your last tractor purchase? being a compact tractor forum, bet there's a lot. regards
Probably everybody. 🤣
My first ever tractor was a L3301. My gut told me to go to a L4701 but I let the salesman and my wife convince me otherwise.
Two years later I sold the L3301 and got the MX5400. World of difference and the one I should have gotten in the beginning.

Awesome.
I remember when Kubota was offering 20% discount on the tractor and implements using the NCHA membership.
