I don't know what those hurricane things are, or about your weird trees, but anything that improves the structure is a positive.

Turnip, the beams are held in place by J bolts that are 24" long, they go in the concrete, J down, threads up and the beams are bolted to them.
That way they are anchored onto the slab, it makes for a great anchoring system. I will put them in the next picture, when we pour.
The trees are palm trees with coconuts, we drink the coconut water now & then.
