Ram vs Dodge/Chrysler - how complete is the separation?

As to the original question...

RAM is just Stellanis was of getting their truck name away from the Dodge name (whether to separate from bad history or to leverage the goodwill of the RAM name).

Like all of the former 'big 3', they share some management, development, parts, etc.

The change to Ram came in 2010, before Stellantis was formed. Stellantis formed in 2021 when Fiat Chrysler merged with the French PSA Group.

My 2020 Ram is made under the previous ownershi name “FCA” Fiat Chrysler.
Fiat Chrysler formed as a new corporate entity in January 2014.

The 8 speed automatics RAM uses might be the best transmissions on the market right now; I genuinely miss the transmission from my RAM 1500 more than any other one thing from that truck.

I can also attest that they're a safe truck.

I have that 8-speed ZF-8 paired with a V6 Pentastar engine in my Jeep Wrangler. It is the nicest transmission I’ve ever driven. Shifting is seamless and it always seems to be in the correct gear for the speed and road conditions. Hopefully nobody was hurt in your crash. That looks bad.

When Ram HD 2500/3500 were somewhat redesigned in 2019 the ZF8 speed has been in HD gas trucks and is great IMHO.

I really like my ZF eight speed!

Sorry, was just using the current ownership name generically. Chrysler has had a lot of ownership change in the post Iacocca era. I think we both know why...but such discussions will set off others.

The ZF-8?
Have heard a lot of good things.

It was; it never struggled to find the right gear, and had power for days. One hell of a truck.

Fortunately, it was just me and my own damned foolishness. It was bad, but one of those situations where one has no one to blame but themselves, but sometimes we need that smack upside the head to learn. Anyhow, it was a great truck, and I would recommend them to anyone.

I have the ZF-8 in my ‘20 Rubicon, too. Mines paired to the 2L turbo. It’s very responsive & fast. I just sold it to my son. He allows me to drive it anytime I want. What a great kid.

The G360 was a great match in the 1 tons

Dodge and Ram are just brands, just like Jeep, Fiat, and Alfa Romeo are. Stellantis, or

Mercedes Benz designed that transmission, back when Chrysler and Damiler were partners.

The wife had an 8 speed in her ML500 back in 2006, when it first came out.

They are all made under the Stelantis name, Ram is just a brand of it. They all use the same OEM's for parts and for assembly.

Oh I've posted the photo before; the accident is going on 2 years ago, and I'm just lucky I didn't kill myself or anyone else. If you'd like to know details I don't mind, but I'd rather do it through PM.

No. I made myself a promise to never buy another Silverado. I intend to keep that promise
Ditto. Unfortunately, it took me more than one, to learn my lesson.

My last two pickups have been a Dodge and a Ram, and have caused me fewer problems than any other trucks I've ever owned, despite being used harder. Go figure, even I wasn't expecting that, when I made the switch.
