Hi folks

Excited to be signed up for our first UTV. Money down on a shiny new Kubota RTVX 1130.

We are pioneering rocky escarpment country here in North Australia. Been here 14 years -still building the homestead

I have been running a Mahindra 5035 tractor these last years and it’s proven indispensable for living here. Grading, slashing, earth moving, loading digging, spraying. And it has never missed a beat. Faultless performance.

The 1130 will be our first UTV, replacing an old one tonne 4WD Toyota pickup which we have operated for 28 years.

The pickup runs great and is road legal but it showing its age after a hard working life and maintenance costs are increasing. We will sell it on.

We hope the Kubota will be even better on steep rocky slopes, deep creek crossings and muddy sections.

But we will require it to do all these things at max payload (750kg). Does anybody know if performance will be impaired?

Anybody have experience of putting an RTVX through seriously tough country at full payload? What’s it like?

I have had mine out on rocky unproved trails, loaded so it is compressing the springs a fair amount. I have not had problems with it. It is slow but the hydrostatic transmission just feathers down and keeps going. You won't get anywhere fast.
Even unloaded going downhill on a smooth dirt road I cannot get to the rated 25 mph. These are workhorses and that's what they do well.

Oh dear. Maybe I should have bought a Can Am Defender pro 6x6 instead? But I think the buzzing noise of the little Rotax motor would irritate me. Also thrashing a little engine under load wouldn’t be good for drive train longevity.

Our property is largish and while there are some muddy patches, steep ascents up rocky tracks will be the main obstacle. I’m hoping the diesel will be a better hauling motor that the smaller two cylinder Rotax.

I’m aware the 1130 is extremely heavy with poor clearance and so not ideal for mud but I’m hoping its performance hauling weights up slopes will justify our selection. Noting the pessimism in this thread I will be sure to fit a winch to pull us out of deep bogs!

Ive been looking at that model myself. Slow, but I think the pro category is more favorable for my needs. Did you get yours yet? Im curious how that bed tilt works with a good amount of material in it? That 6’(182’ish cm) bed is appealing to me.

Here's some pics of mine at work. I usually just put two buckets from my B2620 tractor in it. It will carry and lift more, but I'm just playing around at home, so why max it out.
With two buckets of pitrun gravel in it, I can climb these hills in high gear with AC on at 7 MPH. When warmed right up it will sometimes hit 9 MPH.
I love my RTV. After hauling 330 metric tonnes up these hills with my B2620, one bucket at a time, even though I only haul 2 buckets in the RTV it is so much faster travel speed than the tractor.

I agree with Paystar, my RTV deals with a steep hill easily with firewood load or without and on the trails for hunting ( north of Elliot Lake in Ontarios Rocky bush) , it did steep loose rock and bedrock easily by pressing down on the differential lock and powering up. That differential lock has got me out of the odd deep waterhole too. My top speed on level roads is 26 mph.

For those of us that use ATVs (RTV) for work, the Kubota is fantastic. And I don't use those words much. I have a 2010 RTV1100 with over 2000hrs. And not easy use at all. All of the maintenance is done on the farm, pretty close to factory suggestions. Shell Rotella T4 15W40 since new. Replaced two front axles (only because cheaper than Kubota wanted for one boot...). Replaced starter last year. Pulls fairly heavy 6X10' trailer a lot with fencing, brush, etc. behind. Will hold and dump anything you put in it. Uses no oil and nothing else.

And for those that say it is bad in mud...nonsense. Put some more aggressive tires on it and you will not stick this thing until you high center it. Which applies to darn near any 4WD vehicle...

Top speed...25mph. Now, you want to work or do you want play? Two entirely different things - we work the devil out of ours, and never been inside yet. I would squall at the price, but would I buy another one? Absolutely. And with heat and air? No brainer, at all.

You will be disappointed. It is only 25 horse, it is smaller lighter and gets around easier. Better for small jobs spot spraying, fence repair, general maintain and repairs, herding, and taking places I don't want something heavier leaving tracks etc. But it is not a truck and certainly not a 1 ton truck. I use mine every day on my farm for jobs that don't require a tractor or a truck. P.S. order it with ag. tires.

I guess 25hp with the right transmission and gearing can go a long way!

I have a 2012 RTV 1100 with over 2,000 hrs on it. I bought it new and it has a cab with heat and air and I use a blade on it in the winter to move snow. Live in NE Iowa. This unit has been a workhorse for me. I've pulled livestock trailers with 2, 1,500 lb cows in it up a hill and it didn't miss a beat. The amount of problems I've had with it, you can put in a thimble. I'm very particular on maintenance and very particular on not beating it up. Looks like its 1 year old. While it has 3 speeds on it, the shifter is probably the worst item on the unit, but I've had very little trouble with it other than it's a little hard to get into gear sometimes, but always get it there. Starts good in the winter, although when it gets down to single digits I put it in a warm garage. Plows snow well. The plow is an aftermarket as at that time Kubota wasn't into that. I also own a 2011 RTV 900 and it has over 2700 hours on it. It's a little rougher and has no cab, but is still hanging in there. Faster on speed than my 1100 but can't pull the loads although its no slouch. Looking to trade it on a 1130 C with the 6' box.

We have a Kubota RTV-X1100C with a 25 HP Kubota D1105 3-cylinder diesel engine. This engine provides the power for the utility vehicle, which is also equipped with a Variable Hydro Transmission (VHT-X) and standard 4-wheel drive. We live in North Florida on about 350 acres, and I traded a Polaris 900 Ranger for this Beast. It is a workhorse; a slow workhorse, but slow and steady wins the race! The hydraulic dump trailer dumps anything from Firewood to 5-7 rock. Look at the pictures @Paystar posted. It's great for taking material to our trails. We have a lot of uplands and lowlands. The lowlands and the stock turf tires didn't get along together, so we put a set of 29" ITP semi-aggressive tires on the stock rims, and it did not need a lift on it. I also saw a picture that I attached with one that had a winch in the bed. The tire pictures are the actual tires on our 1100c and have not gotten me stuck yet....fingers crossed.

Mine does fine in the mud with the ITP tires, they are larger than stock, 29", and pretty aggressive.

Very cool! Are you running stock rims? Any lift or suspension adjustments? Do they clear easily at the full extents of steering? Thanks.

@otlski , Yeah, they fit on the stock rims. I was trying to find some aftermarket rims, but Kubota made the bolt pattern on these difficult since it has two studs and two bolts that go into the spindle. No need for a lift or any adjustments, and it has full range on steering.

I've got an 1140 and love it. As long as you understand that they are SLOW, you will be fine. It's by far the most sturdy and best built UTV that I have owned. Better than our Deere Gator, which is better than the Kawasaki Mule that we had before that. My only complaint is the same as everyone else's - the machine is underpowered. It would be great if it were 35-50 hp rather than 25, but I'm pretty sure Kubota keeps it below 25hp because more stringent emisssions standards kick in above that. Also, the top speed of 25mph means it doesn't have to have doors, which is nice. They otherwise are just in the way most of the time.

As for speed, they quote 25 mph max, but that will only happen with the machine fully wormed up, lightly loaded, and on absolutely flat ground or downhill. A more realistic expectation is 16-20 mph depending on load and grade. For me that's fine, and I'll trade the speed for durability and build quality any day.

Im talking about mid-temperature day, not trying to keep the cab cold or hot, engine is warmed up..

I leave mine running unless I will be at one stop for a while.
