anyone else having slow internet this morning?
I switch from Verizon to T Mobile and they both are crawling this morning.
won't display weather radar, won't run speed test.

sometimes if I turn one on, then the other provider, the original one works better.
Like it knows it has competition and had better get moving...
pretty low tech explanation

weather radar just turned on, wow lot of rain going up mid Atlantic inland, right up through Maryland
and central PA.
Engineer, are you driving into this?

so it looks like the bulk of this storm has gone West of me.
That's good news for the car show tomorrow, now the forecast is bright sun all day.
perhaps in a sea of mud, but sun is good.

going to rain all day, maybe another inch.
So far this has been a good storm, a real soaker but slow

I wonder if Frits is down checking out his driveway soon.
This is coming right over him

Hopefully not Drew. We are already in Connellsville, showers here but nothing bad. It should be blown thru by the time we leave Monday for New Holland.

Morning all, 79 going to 82, another 1"+ of rain last night-Tornado watch till 2pm
Did some more cleanup around the property after the last few storms hit. Lost power multiple times, seems stable this morning. But we also lost the Cell tower connection at some point for a while.
Yard is a mess of leaves and branches.

We've never been to Ireland, even though my wife is half Irish, and we have both worked and spent a lot of time in England. So we really love the comments as we will do this trip eventually.

Good luck with the sale PopGadget, must be pretty complex, does FAA get involved?

Off to Lake Tahoe, we rented a 20' open bow and went puttering around the lake. It was windy with decent size swells so it was work keeping the boat pointed straight and we could not just hang out for very long before the wind started moving us around.

After that to Emeryville near Oakland for a visit to Trader Vics restaurant. Wifes family used to do a yearly jaunt to the one in NYC when she was a little girl, not too many of them left in the US, the one in LA we went to last time closed, the one in NYC closed many years ago:

Then off to Santa Cruz for the evening and onto the amusement boardwalk to my son could ride another famous roller coaster, open for 100 years and still running.

Then off to Big Sur, Monterrey and our favorite, Carmel. Last time I was here was for the Pebble Beach Concours and Monterrey Historics Race. This time just wandering around.

Thank you for sharing. Pictures bring up many memories of our time in California many years ago around SF and LA and many trips in the area. Carmel is still beautiful and Yosemite is amazing to visit. We stayed one time in one of the cabins with a group of friends in Yosemite park. It was a great trip

great pics Ken
I laughed when reading about your trip to Lake Tahoe and then saw the marina pic
mighty big boat to be on a lake.....
has to be Santa Cruz.

went out and picked a tomato that was cracking.
half the cherry tomatoes were cracked from the rain so far.
picked as much as I could

very annoyed and frustrated that some critter pulled out my melon and then just left it on the lawn.
not harmed at all. It's not ripe, not like some Mother Nature spirit telling me to pick it...

first little figs showing up on bush

The recent cleaning of the Mitsubishi wall unit bill came in at about 400 dollars. Seems that the concurrent operation with running the wood stove contributed to the problem. Replacing the old Jotul with a larger and airtight modern stove with higher output. Scheduled for installation in September.

Attaching a portion of the bill FYI

Tear down allowed access to blower motor to properly test. Motor passes ohms test. Called and confirmed ohms readings with tech support. Existing motor is not damaged motor was not able to produce proper RPM because of the amount of dirt collected on blower wheel.
Reassembled console and brought system back online, monitoring operations
System is functioning properly at this time.
** we brought a new motor with us a preventative measure. Will return part to office to be returned for credit.
(1) “tear down” cleaning coil , drain, pan , and wheel Time @2.5 hrs
I just had my mini-split system cleaned, while the recommended interval is every year I've been doing it every two or three. I do clean the filters frequently.
My dealer/installer has a flat price for the cleanings which included the blower wheel if needed.
They also have a military discount which for my system amount to discounting one indoor unit.

Ductless Mini-Split Maintenance (Condensing Unit) $169.00

  • Inspect, clean and service Mini Split Condenser (level condenser on the pad if necessary and possible), all high and low voltage wiring
  • Inspect contact, capacitor, compressor, condenser coil, fan blade, fan motor, the refrigerant charge (addition of refrigerant is additional)
  • Inspect line set, line set insulation (extra charge if this needs to be replaced)and disconnect box. All indoor fan coil servicing and cleaning are $69.00 each.

68°F and .09 inches rain.

Yesterday was another good Dr visit for Sophie. Meds adjusted again. Today will be meeting with the ophthalmologist that did her surgery. That will pretty much take up the morning.

Will have a bit of time to piddle about this afternoon before our LA friends come over for early dinner. Grilling some NY strips.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

Good Afternoon,
Bill that was a great old video, now I know why you go down the YouTube rabbit hole every so often ! 😂

Ken, all great pics and thanks for posting ! My California vacations were very limited, mostly San Francisco and going over the Golden Gare to Sausalito, and of course tour the vineyards in NAPA etc !

Plowhog, glad to hear Rigby doing a bit better !

Lou, great price on the mini split cleaning. We don’t run a wood stove at the Ct house anymore so cleaning doesn’t seem quite as critical than if we we’re !

Engineer, thanks for posting the old Wheel Horse pic, those things were great machines, and still sought after today !

Wind picking up here but not too bad yet ! 🙏

79F and partly cloudy @ 13:15, calling for a high of 81F for the day.

Got hair cut yesterday from The Woman after I got cleaned up.

Then we headed into town to pick up a refill of one of my prescriptions.

After that we drove down to Eadies Fish House in Canton for dinner.

Dropped by Dunkin on the way back home for a couple of donuts for dessert.

Looked like it was threatening rain all through our outing ... but never got more than a couple drops.

About 2 miles from home we noticed the pavement was wet but it had mostly stopped until we got out of the car, when it started spitting again.

Heard rumbles of thunder throughout the evening.

Looking at the radar we could see that most of it was just to west of us.

Local 11 o'clock news came on and reported that that line of storms was dumping serious amounts of rain and Flash Flood Warnings had been issued.

Some areas in Wayne County which is just west of us got 7.3" in a couple of hours.

Relatives reported they got close to 4" and their power was out.

Eventually the rains came here, and the LWS reports we got another 1.62" overnight.

Temps have finally cooled down and Ten Day looking good ... not calling for any further rain until next Thu/Fri ... (y)

Have to run out here in a bit then will figure out what will on the agenda for the rest of the day once we get back.

Hope everyone is having a decent Friday ... (y)

Got a call from the supplier of the e-trike. The guy that was supposed to deliver it hurt his foot and cannot do it today, but the technician that doesn't work on Fridays will deliver it tomorrow so they say. Still better than 30 days from ordering to receiving like the other one I was going to get. 127 miles and 2 hrs and 19 minutes, one way and they are charging me $400.oo to deliver, thanks to the high price of gas.

heaviest rain just went through, looks like it will be clearing up early and might not get soaked going to dinner

We are getting high winds and heavy rains. Power tried going out had 3 resets and finally stayed on with the third. The scanner is busy with reports of trees down some with wires involved.
At this time National Grid has 445 reported outages, with over 32,000 customers out at this time.

And just as I was ready to hit reply my Starlink went out from the storm, as always, using my phone hotspot now.

69F steady rain started around 4:30pm every now and then30 second down pour winds around 10mph,radar showing storm ending around 11pm so we are only getting the tail end of storm.

Good luck with support….
I would try powering all the FIOS equipment off (and unplug the battery if you have a land line). Can’t hurt, and might cure it.

Here’s what I just got on my iPhone via WiFi.

Is there position your son trying out for?
Well, he wanted wide receiver, but I guess his hands weren't sticky enough. So he's playing running back and line backer.
Scrimmage tomorrow morning against the JV.

They eat roaches so I take them to the other side of the yard, haven't seen a roach here yet. Their bite/sting is no worse than a wasp sting.
Hope they don't replicate.
Ours do. In orders of magnitudes sometimes.

Good Morning!!!! Afternoon, actually. 70F @ 5:00PM. A mix of clouds and sun. High 71F. Winds WNW at 10 to 15 mph.

Looking at the heat pump installation, Paul, would there have been any difference in hanging it from the rafters to help isolate it from the ceiling joists noise wise? Otherwise, very impressive progress, especially since you're recently recovered from CV19.

Well, the camping trip went off the rails only a few miles from the start. We started from a friend's house, in fog, but came out above it at the first crossing of the Coast Range. Temperatures rose a lot, but nothing crazy. We had to cross US101 with no light or on/off ramps, a little stressful, but traffic was light. A few minutes later my buddy pulls of the road and just sits there, fumbling with their jacket. By the time I had my helmet and gloves off they were struggling to get out of their jacket, gloves, and helmet, too. Turns out they were badly over heating, and felt faint and were seeing black dots. Not good. I eventually got them sitting in the shade, moved the bikes down there, and got a text off to their daughter for a rescue pickup. A local rancher stopped and offered to help shuttle the motorcycle to their place for safe keeping. I think he really wanted to ride that little BMW. He borrowed my helmet, and I drove his Prius. Took us about 20 minutes over badly patched roads. I came back later with the van and drop gate trailer to recover the bike, being really glad I'd ferried the trailer down last month. Hung a bottle of good Bourbon on his gate as thanks, got a thank you back that evening.

Never figured out what ailed my friend, but I stuck around for the night and most of Sunday to keep an eye on 'em. We did some shopping Sunday, and things appeared back to normal. Reminded me a lot of the time I almost blacked out on a Los Angeles freeway while splitting traffic. I think it was low blood sugar in my case; a candy bar and an energy drink fixed me up in a half hour or so. Gittin' old ain't for the faint of heart.
Once a person has had heat stroke, it doesn't take much heat to relapse. And it can be a death sentence if not cooled down and treated. I don't know how long it takes to get back some tolerance.

My lovely wife and I took Della up to the mountains to swim in the deep holes of a mountain stream during a hike. Took a tennis ball this time, and had a blast watching swimming and fetching...I wade in just over my knees. Ended the day sitting under the picnic shelter at Yoder's eating a 4pm lunch...brought home a delicious strawberry pie.
Glad you and wifey are able to do those things. Prayers for your MIL and family helping her.

We have knob and tube in the old farmhouse. Plus added romex. Much of it is a wiring mess-- opened a wiring junction box and found 4-5 black wires (hot) also connected to one green wire. Green is typically ground but not for whoever wired THAT up. lol

Wife and I are back in NV this morning for Rigby's second puppy training class. The first class was heartbreaking-- he is terrified of other puppies/dogs! All the other pups socialize but he is afraid and wants to run away. We are hoping he can socialize with other pups/dogs better starting with the class today. Several weeks ago, a dog in the vet's office got very aggressive against him and it has obviously imprinted fear of other dogs. We are hopeful to get that out.

Will be back in CA by mid-day where it will be 95F and sunny.

Everyone have a great day!!!
I wonder if knob and tube killed squirrels that got into the attic???

Rigby a good dog, important to socialize him with other good dogs if possible. And people too!

I'm way behind. Trying to catch up. Watched a tiny bit of track events at Olympics.

Still dropping son off at football practice before 6AM.

Prayers for our team.

Here's our baby Yoda (Grogu)

Turned into an interesting day of sorts.
First stop was Safeway to take advantage of $5 Friday.

Came out to truck, load in our treasures. Attempt to start truck and nothing, completely dead. To be honest, I had a low battery warning from key fob, so figured that was it. Tried Sophie’s fob, still dead. And I mean totally dead. Swapped out battery from Sophie’s Pilot fob. Still dead.

Getting close for Sophie’s appointment so I got her an Uber. 🤙🤙

Called USAA road service. Guy was there in like 10 minutes. Told him I was going back into store to buy a new 2032 battery, lest we had 2 bad ones.
When I came out truck was running. Thanked him and he left. Drove to Dr office but still getting low battery message.
Decided to leave truck running and we drove home about 15 minutes later.
Sophie had a great visit, next followup next Friday.
Got home, shut truck off, got out to underload. Rear doors locked, couldn’t unlock. Attempted restart, dead as door nail again. So glad I didn’t turn off at Dr office.
Battery is only about year old.
Service appointment at dealer next Wednesday. Sure hope it starts

Good (Saturday) morning. Overnight Low of 5.7C and it's presently 18.7C! Fairly clear with a gentle breeze. Very 'warm' Winter temperatures.

Last evening's 'drinks' was a lovely social event but, crickey, has the prices ever gone up (due to the Fed Gov). One large glass of wine cost the same as an entire bottle that the Wine Faeries send me. Yes, I know that a restaurant/bar needs to make a profit + pay staff but my costs are getting prohibitive. <sigh> I came home to have supper @ about 1900.

That's about it, take care all.
