Also, I'm not sure what type of a respirator is going to filter CO from the air. Something else is happening here, I suspect.Could the old tractor just have a poor exhaust? Headache is a sign of CO poisoning and 30 minutes is about right.
I've owned a half dozen or more pre-emissions tractors, and one with DPF. Neither ever gave me headaches from the exhaust, but I will admit the DPF is much more pleasant to be around, particularly when connecting implements to a running tractor in a shed or other confined space.
On the flip side, the DPF makes the machine a hot ride in summer, but pleasantly warm in winter. Thankfully, I do most of my "tractoring" in cooler weather.
Emissions is not an important enough factor to have any sway over my tractor purchase decision, there are honestly several dozen other factors that matter way more to me. Even if I had the choice, all else being equal, I'm not sure which way I'd go. I really question the decision making skills of anyone who puts this one point high on their list of important factors when choosing a tractor, it really just isn't that big a deal, unless you're that rare bird running an un-cabbed machine in 100F weather on a frequent basis.
