Stupid Things I Have Done

I'll carry the saw out by hand, do what I need to do, and set it in a conspicuous out of the way place when I get back on the tractor

That's what I do, now. There are some nicely made scabbards shown throughout the years here, but I have never gotten around to making one.

I still carry saws and tools in bucket, but I always leave something sticking up as a constant reminder the bucket is not empty.
Same. I carry 3 chainsaws, my toolbox full of spare chains and tools, my straight gas and 2-stroke mix cans, and the starter cable set for my splitter all in the bucket, every time I head out to my wood lot. First stop when I’m down there is a stack of pallets where I unload and stage that gear, before setting up to process logs.

I think I'll start doing that also. I can't count the number of times I've pushed into a dirt, stone, or brush pile with a bucket load of tools.
I dropped my pallet forks deep into a large brush pile a few years ago because I forgot to latch the ssqa bars. What a pain... Now I lock the bars immediately after picking up the implement.

I've thought about zip tying a rat trap to my loader control when something is in the bucket. It wouldn't take many times then for me to forget it!

I dropped my HD bucket into a burning firepit once! One of those true "oh ****" moments, as the fire was raging pretty good, at the time. Never hooked back onto an un-leveled bucket so quickly, before or since. :D

It was probably the third time overall that I'd dropped my bucket, and hopefully the last. Now I force myself to leave the seat pin the damn thing as soon as I hook onto it, rather than just planning to do it next time I'm off the seat. Don't tell yourself you'll remember to do it, because eventually you'll forget and drop it somewhere inconvenient.

Does this thread include instances of personal actions that could easily got myself kilt! ?

Like the time I laddered up to set a cable on the 100 foot tall 3 ft ABH oak that snapped the hinge, fell the wrong way in a puff of wind and hung on a nearby tree just waiting to roll off onto the house?

Or the time I tried to jump into a roll-away VW bus and got my leg caught in the drivers side front wheel that dragged just enough to turn the bus sideways to the slope and kept both van and I from being carried over a 6 foot embankment and into the Ammonoosuc river? While all I could do to extricate myself was to yell "HELP" in the most "carrying voice" I could muster?

That kind of dumb stuff?

I could go on,
I'm not old because I haven't been lucky!

My guardian angel still works overtime! I try to tell her she doesn't have to, but she is no fool!

I have not read all the posts in this thread but am sure mine will be unique.

3 years ago I spent time with my 8 & 10 year old grandsons in Virginia, we built a coaster car out of scrap lumber. Instead of old mower wheels and axles, I found some nice ball bearing wheels and axles that rolled much easier. Too easy it turns out. Rope steering completed the vehicle.

The boys took turns coasting down the gentle side of the hill in front of their house on the road. It was so much fun that even old Grandpop tried it out. it was a lot of fun.

Later we tried the steeper hill going in the other direction. Oldest grandson started half way down the hill, it was faster and more exciting. I figured that if a 9 year old could do it, I surely could (dumb mistake). I ALMOST made it to the bottom of the hill before rolling the car over as I aimed toward the edge of the road to run onto the grass.

Besides scaring the crap out of my grandsons and daughter, I cleaned out the antiseptic spray and bandages they had in the house. I slept in the recliner at home for 3 nights until I could lay in the bed without hurting myself. Never again, well, until next time.

There is more likely to be a "Next Time" when grandsons are involved.

I have three. 17, 15, and 3

The older two don't hang out with me any more I can't compete with hormones and sports

But the 3yo..... yeah, I'm starting all over on the "Hold My Coffee" moments

Made my day when I left the vets office tonight. Had the daughter pass me when I was heading home.

The 3yo was waving his little heart out at PaPa when they went by
