I got this guy just past the trail I went up, GNP, Montana.

Got a female with cubs a little later. Needless to say, the trail was closed again, shortly after.

I miss seeing quail. I used to enjoy hunting them when I lived back in CA, but since moving to East Texas in 2002, I haven't seen one.

Now I'm wondering if we should buy some eggs and raising them with my chickens.
We used to have them around here as well. I remember hearing them fairly frequently as a kid. Haven't heard one in probably 45 years.

ha, I didn't know, I always thought they where brown, I guess they turn that color once they get older? or its color variation?
It's a form of camouflage. Just kidding. This guy was definitely the lighter of the bears seen that day. I picked him up from movement between the rocks. YIKES.

We have lived at our current place for close to 50 years and only in the last 2 years have we heard or seen any quail. Hope they are making a come back.

We're near the Blue Ridge in Virginia and 44 years ago had quail, pheasant, turkeys, various owls then coyote & more foxes decimated them. I shoot foxes because neighbors raise chickens and we had feathers all over pastures. I cut down a large dead tree a few years ago and at 2am that night (next morning) and owl landed on bedroom window sill and screamed at me! I wouldn't have cut it if I knew it was it's nest.
I pile brush along a hilltop hoping for quail, some rabbits do use it.
Too many people moving in.

We have a fair number of quail on one of my properties. Always nice to see the little guys.

They're called Grizzly bears because of their grizzled color.
I thought it was because after a grizzly attacked you, your remains were a grisly sight.

One day when working up mt. with my backhoe I noticed this scruffy coyote sitting watching me & he hung around for a while before wandering off he looked ruff and I didn't think he'd make through the winter. Next yr. I was splitting wood and this same scruffy coyote wandered by about 30 ft. from me and sat down on this moss covered rock outcrop about the same distance away. Soon he laid down put his leg over his nose like a dog and took a nap. I kept working and by the time I thought that it would make a good pic. he'd left and I've never seen him again.

he looks healthy to me at that time, pretty big also. The ones I saw on my proprety they where the size of a mid size dog, maybe 40 pound at best.
