Three years ago. Down the road checking/updating one of my Geocaches. Off in the nearby bushes - an abandoned car. I could not resist - opened the trunk. Large plastic bags - full of Marijuana. Came back home - called the police.

It was a stolen and abandoned car. I don't think they ever found out much about the MJ. In retrospect - I was probably very lucky that nobody was still in or around the car. LEO had to come and check on me - I guess, to ensure I wasn't the person who stole the car or who owned the MJ.

That could have been the starting scene for the movie No Country For Old Men. Gotta be careful out there.

MJ is just ONE of the things I don't feel moved enough to keep up with. I'm pretty sure the stuff is still not legal in WA state. About six years ago - three REAL IDIOTS ( Larry, Moe & Curley types ) tried setting up a MJ growing operation right across the county road from my driveway. I visited once. That was enough. It didn't last long. They weren't making enough $$$ on MJ sales to pay the loan on the property. After about three months something went terribly wrong - their entire operation burned to the ground. No great loss.

I just look at it with the viewpoint of my safety... when it was illegal and all of the money was black market there was a certain amount of risk just working on your own or a client's property. I know one person who got his camp burned several times by growers, just for saying the wrong thing.

My 80 acres is part of an original homestead. 160 acres - granted by the gov in 1892 for oil exploration.

Anyhow - cleaning up the area where the old homestead buildings were. Found two apple boxes full of old dry cell batteries. 2 1/2 inches in diameter - 6 inches tall.

Then it hit me. They never had electricity, phone or driveway access here. They drove onto this 80 acres thru a neighbors fields.

The only "entertainment" was a big 'ol radio. These drywall batteries must have been what powered their radio. Hard to tell - after more than 100 years - if these old batteries were the good ones or the spent ones.

I only met the old homestead couple two times. It was 1949 - so I was seven year old. I do remember though - exactly at 8PM the radio was turned on and they listened to some show for an hour. Only time the old radio was ever turned on.

My last job as a cruising contractor was in Western Maine where there are some old abandoned homesteads. I was hiking up a hill every morning, which had huge boulders with people's names and dates going back to the late 1800's.
At the end of the day I sometimes visited old graveyards... a rather morbid hobby of mine.
I always wanted to see if I could match any of the names on the hill with names on the graveyard but never did. With today's camera phones I probably would have made it work.

One morning we (dog and I) headed out through the woods and came across something odd. I thought "Why did somebody put fencing around that weed?"
"Oh, wait a minute!!!"
Come here pup, we're getting the puck out of here.
A couple of days later a major grow operation was busted. I'd heard the airplanes but didn't know what was going on.

This is the reason I am thankful that Pot has been decriminalized. Growers are on their own land now, rather than somebody else's property complete with boobie traps.

More than 50 years ago I was digging in an old can and bottle dump that an Odd Fellows home had used and then abandoned decades before myself and some friends found it. In a rusted out Prince Charles tobacco can I found a leather coin purse with pennies, nickles, dimes, and quarters in it. It had 4 slots in it that had metal guides for the coins. All the slots were full. The dimes and quarters were all silver and of course all the coins were old. Quite a find for a 14 year old.

Late eighties, the NJ town that I was living put in central sewage. When the trench for our discharge pipe was dug, we found about 4 or 5 iron cannon balls. Likely from a near by town that had an iron forge that did indeed make them for George Washington's militia.

The house which near as we could find out had been built between 1620 to 1650 and was a tavern. We found various shards of period pottery likely tossed out of a window after being broken.

The police were called and it created quite a stir until scuba divers recovered an old railroad lantern. It turned out to be a hoax created by a couple of boys who threw the lantern in and claimed they saw a UFO crash into the pond. Even so, the story got out and created a conspiracy theory which survives to this day.

Every year, the town of Carbondale has it's "Carbondalien Festival" which just celebrated it's 50th anniversary.

What is almost certainly a head stone, but no inscription so probably a dog or horse.

I just followed your link and have to say BS on it being a prank. What kind of lantern works underwater, and would stay lit for three days?
Several people have reported seeing it fall from the sky. There also were a few other disparities but I can't remember what they were so obviously the government has fogged my mind. "They" learned from Roswell; this is nothing but a big coverup.

Some time back my dad, now deceased 2 years, and I were out spring turkey hunting on our ranch. While looking for a downed bird dad stumbled across a rock. It had an arrow scribed in the top of it. Realizing it was an old marker, I GPS’d it and we protected it IN PLACE where cows couldn’t trip on it, etc.
We contacted a nearby university archeologist and sent pictures. He in turn contacted several more across the state and set up a time to come look at it. All agreed it was Spanish and an old trail was also discovered nearby, all overgrown. This is in the general area of what’s called the Runaway Scrape which was the route used by those living in the path of the approaching Mexican army after the fall of the Alamo. It was some sort of route marker and the arrow was cut into the rock using copper, which they said was brought by the Spanish. The archeologists all stated they had never seen anything like it. Using a compass and a mapping app, it appeared to point towards the intersection of two rivers and possible an old Spanish fort. Their suggest was to mark it, which they did, remove it, and place in a box full of sand to keep it from cracking. We never found that downed turkey.

We would go mountain biking in the woods all the time.
Would find little decorations etc. in the woods.

One day someone set up a whole "classroom" of dolls on little rough made desks.
It was there for many years, think it made the papers once.

No one stepped up to claim they did it.

Kinda creepy.
