Clearing out between my house and my neighbors I found a few bottles of expensive alcohol.
Most of the labels were in very good shape.
Neighbors daughter had graduated high school 2 years earlier, thought I heard some noise in the woods

Golf balls. I used to do grade excavating, leveling, finish grading and seeding and was shocked at the volume of golf balls in the fields. It's a midwest thing to drive used golf balls into fields from your back yard. They would collect in my equipment.

I had one 8 acre job that I collected or pressed back down many hundreds of old golf balls. Maybe 800-1000? I still have boxes of them.

I suspect there are lots of "time capsule" notes and stuff left in walls during construction, but
I am always amazed how stories of people hiding valuables in walls when renovating, only to be forgotten
and only found when someone does the next renovation.

I just finished a bathroom remodel (to the studs) in this old farmhouse. I left a local newspaper from Jan 20, 2025 and a "MAGA" note in the wall cavity for someone to find. I did find an old small woman's/girl's shoe, wooden sewing thread spindle and small (empty) medicine bottle inside a wall, when I re-did the older part of the house a few years ago.

We always put the days newspaper in the walls. Sometime magazines as well, kids drawings and coins. Signed and dated the drywall backs. Signed and dated the subfloor before it was covered. The is a house in the next town where we put the "Kennedy Shot" newspaper in the kitchen soffit for someone to find.

In our old house, we planted a tin box with a few things in it when we did a strip to studs remodel. When we sold the house 5 years ago, new owner did remodel, but we never heard if the tin was found. Building this house we hid another. Jon

Yeah. A friend asked me to brush cut his 1 acre parcel in an established housing development the fall before they built their new house. I ran over a lot of golf balls and baseballs. 3 softballs too as I recall.

That ornament would have been mine if I'd had any tools whatsoever. It's 1/2 mile into the woods so likely will stay there.

There's an old road. Chances are that when they were left there it was an old field, although it's all grown up now. There are 5 old cars and at least 3 of them look like they were driven there and parked.

I too, like looking at old things and thinking about them.

A guy I knew decades ago bought a large rural property.
He eventually found around 20 cars in a stand of trees dating from 20's to 50's.
He got some VIN #'s off some of them and asked the police to look into them.
One officer, a car buff, was very interested.
In the end, they couldn't trace owners, but the officer said back in the 20's/30's it wasn't unusual
to steal cars for the contents of the batteries or radiators. Copper or lead I guess.
The guy who told me this was a body man and eventually restored many of the cars and sold them.
Good ones built to original, rough ones "rodded".
(Tale as told to me. And I saw a couple of the builds)

Friend of my father's bought a hunting property from an estate sale, Farmhouse, Newer metal barn and probably a dozen assorted outbuildings.

Place was owned by an eccentric doctor before my father's friend. Dude was beyond bizarre, smarter than a whip and his tastes were beyond eccentric.
One outbuilding was filled with medical textbooks and yearbooks.
One was filled entirely with enough musical instruments and stands to equip an entire orchestra, with sheet music to go along with it.
He had 3 daughters who apparently were into Off-roading, as there were a selection of what I would classify as "Farm Cars" that were just driven until they couldn't drive and abandoned.
One that collapsed had enough medical hardware (scalpels, spreaders and other equipment that I'm not intelligent enough to describe) to equip a hospital.

There was one building I explored with my buddy that looked to be a model house from the 70s. Shag pile carpet, the colorful wallpaper, analog TV and furnishings to match. Nothing to tell anyone had been in there or lived in it, only tracks were from our boots.

The piece-de-resistance was found floating in a jar of embalming fluid: A 5 month old male fetus.
Apparently, later in his life, his wife miscarried. As I mentioned, he had 3 daughters. So he kept his "son".

They bought this place when I was 12, So 20 years later I'm certain they're still finding remnants from the Good Doctor.

I don't concider myself a jerk but if a bald eagle was threatening my pets..... And I'm not much of a pet man either.

If a bald eagle carried off one of my pets I would salute the bird as it flew off while singing the national anthem.

Back in 2000 we bought our place from a deeply depressed woman who said she bought it with her husband but he left. (don't worry records show she made a 100k on the sale)
A few months into the place I found a wedding ring out in the dirt in front of the house... like somebody threw it back as they were leaving.

If you were brave you should have asked her what she did to the poor man that he would leave her and throw his wedding ring back at the house.

The woman was a miserable thing. I consider the man lucky to have gotten away and we got a good laugh when we found the ring.
