Why would a HST machine not last? There are many 70s model HST tractors still operating.

Well I guess you're right, considering the vast majority of HST tractors are only lightly used. I was thinking of mowing for 10 hrs a day, plowing for 6-8 hrs/day, etc.
I keep forgetting HST tractors, IMO are kinda like Tonka toys for adults.

I rotary cut with mine all day. They are pretty slick for mowing because you can vary ground speed without changing engine RPMs.

That is an advantage, having the engine running the same RPM's all the time.

I operated my friends new Kubota this past week with a pto rear phd. Nice small tractor, everything worked well except the treadle pedal. This one was not smooth in application, poor control of tractor movement. I used the low range to position for holes and that helped a little.

I admit my own equipment all have the same pedal layouts with L forward and R reverse with pedals being electric control hydrostatic. Much easier to operate for me.

Neither of these are "better" than each other or most other brands.

RJ in Longview sells a couple of good brands and have improved their team in the last couple of years.

Remember, those expensive machines also have expensive parts and labor (if needed).

Not sure where you are at, but there's a Bobcat dealer in Pitt, right on 271. Good people there, too. Bobcat are made by Kioti. Good stuff there, too.
