I've been a Lucas Red and Tacky user for about ever. But I hate what they've done with the plastic tubes. Frankly, the grease doesn't seem the same either. What are we using for lithium spindle / chassis grease that still comes in cardboard and works well?

Red and tacky sucks. It leeches oil and runs all over the place. This Exxon grease doesn’t do that and cost about the same as red grease. I like those plastic tubes better too. My truck toolboxes leak a little bit and those tubes don’t get ruined from being a little wet.

I've not had RNT separate. It seems thinner now though. I got 1 case from Stens after they had backordered and they came in cardboard. That was a awhile back. So as I needed it, I grabbed a pack off Amazon. Thought it was counterfeit being in different tubes. It pizzes me off that the tabs break off and then you're having to cut the ring open. The new tubes aren't filled uniformly, so 20-30% are 3" down. Their response to me is they can't get cardboard....

I have a couple of grease guns with plungers that will just NOT fit into the grease tube. I've fought with that spring loaded monster so many times. It makes me want a 5 gallon pail and a pump to refill the lever gun.

I hate the new plastic tubes, or at least the pull tab anyway.
The rings break off on me unless I baby them just right.
I like the old aluminum pull tabs on the carboard tubes much better.

The plastic tube is nicer, but the plastic pull rings suck. Sometimes I have to finish cutting the plastic out with a utility knife.

I can’t imagine how an old guy with arthritis would be able to yank the new plastic pull rings.

I go through ~75 tubes of grease per year, so its a problem.

My plastic tubes still have the foil pull tab.

Seeing as I had to practically start from 'scratch' with maintenance tools, such as a grease gun, when I retired and bought my JD tractor... I bought quite a few of those tools at the Parts/Supply department of my dealership.

The JD grease gun took JD grease tubes and I've used them ever since, always keeping one or two tubes 'on hand'.

Why moly vs others?

The Exxon moly is only about $1 a tube premium over the regular blue grease. I feel like it works enough better to justify that.

When it comes to grease, oil and other lubes and someone asks what is the best kind, I always want to answer “the slippery kind”. There are so many quality ones on the market you are probably good to go if you buy a well known brand name.

All I use since I got a lube shuttle gun.
No mess, fuss or drips. Admittedly I do not have to grease a lot but if I was doing a lot of equipment again then I would go back to a pail and air pump.

I use the same! Never had a problem with "purging air" that so many report.

The Lucas HD green is far thicker and doesn’t leach oil like the red. It’s all I use.

My first time attempting to fill a cartridge with grease was from a five gallon pail no cartridge and no pump. I tried to hold the bottom of the barrel in the grease and suck the grease into it by slowly pulling back on the plunger. Grease went many places and very few were inside the gun. When I finally got a box of cartridges I felt like a grease monkey gone to town.

Yeah they are great. No more gloves needed just to change a cartridge.

All I use, except on my excavator. On that I use Case-IH tan colored grease. I think thats what the original owner used.

It does cost more, but I think it’s worth the premium.

Here’s the newer plastic pull cap on Lucas Green. They suck.

I use mobile one synthetic grease or sometimes marine grease, it stays on even if it goes underwater. I use a hand pump grease gun I bought in 1988 from Napa for the tractors and loaders I had then. still works great today
