I recently picked up filters for my 2655 including a few engine oil filters. When I was buying them the dealer said there was a new part number for the engine oil filter so those are the ones I got. It wasn't until I actually did the oil change that I realized the new filter was so much smaller than the original.

I have received a copy of the actual bulletin and am sharing it so you all know you are getting the right filter for your next oil change. Also below is a picture of a new filter next to the original one.

In case the picture doesn't show very good, the bulletin reads:
"The new filter is 3.54 shorter in length but has improved filtration and dust holding capabilities. The replacement intervals remain the same. The original oil filter....may still be used on other Mahindra mCRD engines but is replaced by oil filter part number 006016642V91 on 2555/2565, 2655/2665 tractors and must be used at the next filter change interval."

Given they are mandating the use of the new filter by saying "must be used at the next filter change interval" in bold text I can only infer that this is an important change since they are telling dealers not to deplete their inventory of the previous filter for these tractors.

I guess this shorter filter is good thing, now owners will no longer be breaking and/or knocking off oil filters when running in brush or over downed tree branches! plus you'll need less oil, from 2 gals. down to 1.75 ! It's a win-win

Thanks DirtHauler. Mahindra sure didn't locate the filters where they are protected. Not everyone uses their tractor in a nice, flat field. I caught the fuel line while clearing brush the other day. I talked with the local dealer, but he wasn't aware of the new filter, nor did he have one.

And my dealer didn't know that there's a "500 hour" oil filter either which I order 4 at a time and only use. In regards to the fuel line, when mine got damaged and had to replace it, I noticed (did you?) that the line rests right on the left brake rod which will eventually rub thru the line. I tied mine up away from rod with zip ties which also seems to help it from getting caught on brush etc.

Thanks again DirtHauler. I appreciate the info on the fuel line and the power steering valve. When I damaged my fuel line (hose), it was right at the filter housing. I had to cut less than an inch off the end and reconnected it. I never looked past the damaged area. I'll definitely look at the line again and tie it up off the brake rod. I did notice the material that the fuel line is made from seemed almost deteriorated. It was soft and felt weak. I was thinking about replacing the entire line with a new hose. I never did hear back from the dealer on that oil filter. He was to call his Mahindra rep. I did send off an email to Bills Tractors, but he didn't respond back. Take care.

I checked into the filter manufacture and these new, shorter oil filters, are made by Mahle. Mahle is a German company, but they have locations in many other countries, including the US. I called Mahle USA and they said they manufacture the Mahindra engine oil filters, but they said all the tech specs are secret, proprietory. I did a cross reference with my local NAPA manager and a NAPA Gold 1324 is the same filter size.NAPA said it should have the same specs because a 1324 filter is used on many small diesel engines. I bought a 1324 and installed it on my 2555 HST and no issues. I paid around $5.00 for this.
