I’m saying IF you try TURNING going DOWN the hill / bank : Zero will slide. IF your hill / bank is only 20* then your nowhere near as steep as my bank. Again this is on a farm NOT a yard or lot like most applications.

BUT if your weighted & fluid filled Zero WONT stay on the bank mowing horizontally when you cross damp soil areas then it’s useless & so frustrating !!! Speed isn’t the answer

I’d think if your bank is dry : a heavy zero will be enough BUT U have to stay STRAIT going downhill & go as slow as possible. IF you start pulling back on handles it’ll make the tires skid & youll slide like grease

Thanks. I found an adjustment knob in owners manual to slow the drop down. I’ll have to dial that in tomorrow.

I don’t like how the deck is slow to raise & let’s down SO FAST 😠 I hadn’t found an adjustment to slow it down 😬 It takes precise SLOW moving the lever. It’s way different than my current ZD1511 & going to take some getting use to the controls in different locations.

These TINY Lil Ol 3.5x8.5” tube tires will never work here on my farm ground.

My ZD1511 26” rear fluid filled tires are 2” taller than the F3710 drive tires so I doubt it’ll ride any better. maybe the longer wheelbase will help tho. I’m thinking the F will need all 4 fluid filled to fit my application.

Oh so the F series definitely rides better than Zero ? Is your ground considered rough where you are making this observation ?

It’s amazing how much taller & wider the fronts are on these ZD1211 & ZD1511 compared to most zero turns. I think they’ll be fantastic on the front of this F mower (y)

Maneuverability is what I’m scared of on this new F3710 I’ve got coming. I mow a long swipe, turning around & mowing back as I don’t mow in circles The super long tail swing will take some getting use to I’m sure.

I see the bushings you mentioned (y) The 4 lug hubs I bought has a 5” bolt circle & are for heavier implements they told me. I guess that’s why the shaft is also bigger. I also mow @ 3.5” Anyways I’m excited to get it all built up & running soon

Keep in mind the frames will have to be raised the correct amount of height that the taller tires AND spindle hubs adds to the custom yokes. The original poster used stock height lil short tires best I can tell.

Took a few #’s on bank today after sliding off it numerous times mowing sideways with Zero. Grass was dry but soil was damp. Averaged 27-32* in most places. 40* + in short areas of gulleys where water washes down. It’s spooky crossing it

That bank steepness looks identical to mine . Mine isn’t near that smooth tho with ruts where water runs down it.

Fluid Filled Turf Tires gives me plenty of traction mowing up & down as long as I stay STRAIT & go Slow. It’s the horizontal runs where I’m loosing traction when crossing wet or damp spots. I can buy a brand new F3710 for $29k OTD

No problem. Kubota evidently has proprietary / patent rights to this 16” tire size because the dealer was the only place to buy it last summer when my bead busted in pic. im sure aftermarket companies will start making them when those copyright deals play out.

I’d have switch to 12” rim diameter like the old ZD331 to run those tires. Mine are also fluid filled. Which I don’t want to buy 4 rims for my two ZD1511 machines.

Here’s some different angles from older pix back when I bush hogged it. I only zero it now.

The first pic looking up bank on page 7 gives you a better perception of the steepness. The bank is a good 30’ taller than the barbwire fence at the bottom.

I agree it doesn’t look steep but ZD1511 will not climb it with my 195lbs in seat all the way back & no weights up front. It rares the front tires off the ground. Sliding seat all the way forward hanging my boots out over the front helps tremendously lol

I sold a Befco C70-110 rear finishing mower cat1 3pt lift type. 110 inch cut with free swinging blades. Heavy machine. I mowed at 4.5 inches to reduce scalping. I had to fluid fill the front tires on my JD 4720 4wd to run the Big Befco.

I can’t use tweels as I have to have rears completely fluid filled for traction on my steep banks. These 16” rim cheesy thin 4ply short sidewalls won’t hold up a diesel engine mowing horizontally on steep banks. Takes max pressure especially fluid filled

Sideways traction mowing horizontally is where I need more traction. My fluid filled turf tires gets plenty of traction climbing & going down as long as I stay STRAIGHT. The 4cyl turbo is super heavy on rear axle.

5-6 acres of that 20 is bush hogged with a 15ft batwing twice a month + 8-9hrs weekly on a 72 inch Zero cutting the remaining 14 acres.

Mulching blades still windRowed BAD with ZD1211 72 rear discharge Deck when grass was thick. I tried everything possible to make the RD deck work because I liked it well.

I mow about 20acres. Rats takes over on a poultry farm IF u let grass get tall enough for hay. I’ve tried it all in 28yrs lol

Very good ideas (y) Dman I now see what you’re saying about the Hex SHOULDER that you weld in the stump jumper & totally agree. My Bush Hog 2815 has pinched blade bolts but I like the Hex Shoulder Bolts much better on my JD MX10

But without the pinch when the bolt gets the least bit loose : the bolt spins. A bolt with the pinch can’t spin at all : tight OR loose.

The pinched shoulder on the Bush Hog blade bolts are to keep it from turning when tightening or loosening the hex nut. My Befco mower had the same design as JCT & was doo doo imo because bolt would spin & wollar the shoulder on bolt & the hole out in stump jumper .

Power Reverser switch assembly fixed my 5093E for flashing neutral light & beeping Not taking forward or reverse. The brass contacts inside switch were worn completely out. Drove me absolutely crazy until I figure it out.

I’ve always ran a Napa battery in all 7 of my JD I’ve owned. Fit perfect & lasted fine. OEM are fine too.

I filled my Daddy’s front R4 tires on his little JD 790 that he mows grass with. The Front tires wouldn’t steer on flat ground running a 60 inch RFM. Tore the grass up too. Now it’s planted, more stable & steers where he points it. Absolutely No extra Weight on front axle pivot pin.

As mentioned if bolts are in both sides of round cross rod : no way can left & right cylinders work independently. That’s your problem if joystick valve isn’t sticking.

The brackets & all hardware was $380 with shipping. I’m not real sure on the 25lb suitcase weight yet as they haven’t came in. Id guess the brackets weighs 20lbs per side with bolts & pins. So that’ll help too. I have my rears fluid filled too & it makes a HUGE DIFFERENCE in Traction...

I had to replace a tie Rod end on 4720 I use to have. It only had 400hrs & was extremely loose.

Down towards the bottom where inside of JD bucket is curved is doubled walled on 4&5k series tractors.

No on the drilling. My 2 other JD buckets have grd70 3/8 Clevis hooks welded to back bottom side of bucket

540E-PTO is only paired with the JD 12spd Power Reverser Trans Option which is also wet clutch. 540 Economy is the best thing ever & well worth the extra $$ with PR Trans. 1000 PTO is only available as an option in JD 5k series M & bigger. JD 9spd with 3cyl motors are all dry clutch...

What brand litter Pulverizer ? Poultry litter ?

I wonder what the OP @dwhipple99 here purchased & if he’s content with it now ? The JD 5E 3cyl are dry clutch on the 9spd transmissions. They will not take any abuse whatsoever. The 12spd power reverser is the trans to have with a 5E. If he bought a red or blue tractor & didn’t like it ...

Small tractors wouldn’t even have 2000psi if that. Sounds like it may have had moisture in the line : froze & partially cracked sometime b4 use

I borrowed this pic from internet. These looks homemade ? I can slide my seat all the way forward & hang my boots out over front axle & it makes a Huge Difference climbing my steep banks here on the farm.

I have two ZD1511 72 inch SD decks & love them. I had to have one reprogrammed to a newer calibration but hadn’t had any issues since. I think the ones that gives trouble is ones that l are only ran short periods of time. The 4cyl Turbo is so much smoother than the 3cyl & more torque.

So so did this fix your problem ? Ive never had a blade slippage problem with RFM, ZD1211 or ZD1511 & im mowing 20acres of farm ground for the last 20yrs.

Question @riptides Do you engage / disengage PTO @ WOT ? I’ve always thought this was murder on an electric clutch.

I had a 4720 open station that kept running hot. Radiator wasn’t stopped up & blowing / washing it out didn’t help. I removed the thermostat & it ran normal from that day on.

Good deal. Is your blades .250 thick like stock thickness ?

Is your washers still concave so they’ll flatten out to clamp blades ?
