    Gooseneck for 150/1500 truck

Good call, we have all the manufacturer data available here. For my configuration of F150 (crew cab, 6.5' bed = 157"wb, 3.31 gears = not max-tow) my conventional bumper tow is 11.2k but the 5th wheel tow rating is 10.1k, interesting. But for the 3.73 gears (max tow) the rating is the same at...

Considering a 3 pt. wood chipper

Anyone have a MechMaxx 3-pt stump grinder?

Ok, one engine stall, we'll forgive ya. But 3 strikes? yer out. Just kidding but for the sake of your nice tractor, be careful! Slip clutch pressure, small bites, correct side of the stump, etc. All of the advice above is good. More simply, if you feel the tractor bogging down from a big...

Regret not getting a backhoe for my tractor

Haha, ok sure. You gotta dig a narrow trench on flat ground, thats great. The videos I have seen are them tipping over when on any uneven terrain, and failing to lift heavy things because they simply aren't big enough. If you need a toy digger thats fine, but they simply don't excavate tree...

Regret not getting a backhoe for my tractor

Thats what I used to do, before I got comfortable taking the whole tree. It's still way, way more difficult without the majority of the tree mass helping lever the stump. I wonder if you guys considering this practice too dangerous have actually tried it? I find it a very controlled and...

Regret not getting a backhoe for my tractor

Yes. But taking down the whole tree using a backhoe or excavator is by far the easiest way to get the stump out! The whole weight of the tree helps lever the stump along with it. If you chainsaw the tree down first, then its at least twice as difficult to get the stump out afterwards. I...

    Another barn build

Awesome project and thanks for sharing! Would another option be to allow yourself to raise the grade of the new building by 12-18" to get the excavation done sooner? shouldn't be that awful to have a gentle ramp up into the building for your equipment storage, no?

Regret not getting a backhoe for my tractor

For my 7.5' backhoe on my 5000 pound tractor (with front loader and backhoe on), I generally limit myself to felling 12" trees and smaller. The 15-20" diameter trees I have tried to fell have taken FOREVER, with many repositions of the machine to be able to find the right roots needing cut...

Regret not getting a backhoe for my tractor

Backhoes for CUTs are definitely just a nice money grab for the manufacturers. Most people that buy them use them only a few times before they just sit forever after that. GM recalls 721K trucks with 6.2L engine

That dude is wrong though, IMO. After an engine grenades, you can imagine up many different initiation points as the cause. When a rod bearing seizes and throws the rod through the block, the piston and wrist pin suffer a lot of damage. The rod goes all catty wampus (sp?) and the circlip...

GM recalls 721K trucks with 6.2L engine

No, it's not the oil's fault. But the 20W oil is making everything riskier, just a fact. OEMs are risking these kind of engine issues en masse just to try to save 0.1mpg across the fleet. Ultimately we can blame the EPA. Frankly, getting the dimensions (bearing diameters/widths), clearances...

Griffin Dump Trailer Issues Never Again

Unfortunately so. A 6x12 should have 14k axles under it, in my opinion. My neighbors 5x10 dual axle is a 10k rated trailer, and it weighs ~3k lbs itself and can hold 3 yards. 3 yards of wet gravel is easily 9k+ lbs of load. So I limit myself to 2.5 yd purchases when borrowing it.

Yeah this is how it used to feel in southern Michigan, too. We'd often have continuous frozen roads and accumulating snowpack from ~ new years until March. So everyone had to know how to navigate slippery roads daily. But more recent winters? Any snow we get just melts within a week. People...

A coworker of mine borrowed our family's 4x8 utility trailer to move houses. Put a lightweight couch in it and hit the freeway, no straps. He said he watched in the mirror as it levitated up, started windmilling in the air behind him, landed on its feet on the pavement at 70 mph, and did a...

Perhaps your fence design is a bit, uh, over complicated. :)

Would you pay $1,500 for 14% more HP?

Heck I would pay $1500 just to hear the noise of the turbo spooling when you cold start the machine, or lay into a pile (add load). I love turbos. While you are quoting a small increase in peak power (14% or 7 hp or whatever), keep in mind that the peak torque increase may be even greater, and...

The chicken wire to the cattle panels? Yeah I used zip ties. Probably some of them are cooked by now, but between weeds/vines/corrosion, its all staying in place just fine. You can buy more substantial quality of plastic zip ties, or even metal ones too. Good selection online with better...

I bought a sack of little mending plates, IE the thin metal strip of zinc plated or galavanized (better) with 2 or 4 holes in them already. Put over any section of wire in the cattle panel, and 1-1/2" deck screws to fasten.

Sounds like a pretty good plan to me. You're definitely over-designing it, but if that's how you like to do things, right on. My 2 cents: Ditch the framing nailer idea and just use outdoor/deck screws, everywhere. This way it is all removable/adjustable if you need to make any tweaks. Also...

Anyone have a MechMaxx 3-pt stump grinder?

Nah not really. Did you fully unbox and assemble it? Sounds like a fun project for a couple evenings in the shop to me.

Anyone have a MechMaxx 3-pt stump grinder?

They look pretty dang similar to me. Sounds like you have no direct evidence yourself, but wish us all to accept your assertions anyway. I mean cripes, they are probably made with the same tooling, in the same factory in China.

Dang, pretty excited to hear your feedback when you start grindin'. Can we get some teaser pics in the meantime? :P

    Cool Nature Photos

^ haha, looks like a pretty boisterous time We had a cool daytime visitor in the yard recently. I hear these guys a lot at night, but very hard to spot them. Looked like nearly 2 feet tall, large bird!

Next time (hopefully never) find the corresponding connector for the hydraulic circuit on the loader (where you would unplug to remove the loader), unplug, and you can stop the leak completely. I had a branch snap over my bucket once in the woods, blew a bucket curl hose right off the fitting...

Mobil Delvac Tractor Hydraulic Fluid 124788 and Mobil fluid 424 the same? good/bad

The Lowes website is so horrible, that I simply do not shop at their stores, ever. It is truly amazing to me that in the year 2024, Lowes cannot figure out how to let you search for products that are actually physically present in their stores in a functional, efficient manner.

I don't think it offers any good flavors. But yeah you can see the squiggly trails of the emerald ash borer beetle on the trunk of the tree under the bark that fell off.

    Why I hate barbed wire!

Wretched stuff indeed. My neighbor decided to use it around the 8' posts to secure his garden. All it does is cut up the deer who jump through it anyway, sad.
