Buying Advice Is it possible to go too big?

A 6,000 pound bare weight tractor will be fine but consider these points: 6,000 pound tractor + 1,400 pound Loader + 800 pound cab + 1,600 pound mower = 9,800 pounds. Do you have any swampy land? Streams to ford? Any bridges to cross on your land? Cattle grates? What about destructive...

    How to clear Holly tree

I presume you mean "trunks" rather than "roots". You will need a tractor with a weight of 5,000 pounds, equipped with a Backhoe, in order to dig out trees with a 15" trunk diameter. A mini-excavator will dig out such trees faster than any compact tractor equipped with a Backhoe.

What is the diameter of the holly tree trunks at ground level? Tractor weight and 4-WD are the deciding factors for the tractor. Moist soil is a critical factor as to whether or not the roots will let go from the soil.

Why no 4 wheel drive on roads?

In 4-WD the front wheels turn about 5% further than the equivalent units for the back tires. This is primarily to aid steering in the dirt. Hence 4-WD tractor tires have tread. 2-WD front tires are grooved, not treaded. 4-WD also increases traction.

M vs. L series in 45-60 HP range

You have identified the main differences between the L series and M series. You have to make up you mind which set of tractor attributes will serve you best. The only advantage I see to the L series is potential compatibility with some of your to35 implements. I've been avoiding looking...

    Is this frost weed?

Yes, GOLDENROD. Goldenrod is a perennial which spreads by seed and roots. If you want to use mechanical control plowing, then disc harrowing soil 6" deep will kill Golderod over 2-3 years. You will have to plow before plants set seed, then disc harrow every time new growth comes up during...

If you were building from scratch....

Mold and mildew will be a problem primarily on the north and east exposures of your home. Do not plan a screened in porch on the north side. If your tractor will be stored inside, plan for concrete floor 6" thick, not 4" thick. Plan one door tall enough so tractor can move in/out with the...

    New hydraulic hoses

I am not a mechanic, I have new hoses fabricated either at the Kubota dealer or at NAPA nearby. I only know enough to install the replacements.

    New hydraulic hoses

My experience differs. I have had four or five Loader hydraulic hoses replaced and the metal fittings were reused each time. Perhaps my Kubota L3560 hydraulic hoses are not the crimp on type.

I am the only one writing here using a ABI TR3 Rake regularly. Mine is the COMMAND model, the heaviest one, with hydraulic operated scarifiers. The last time I priced the COMMAND model, it was $6,500. My review follows. Ask me any questions you wish. I use my TR3 for bare land leveling...

If I Only Buy One Piece of Equiptment...

Kioti DK4710SE HST Cab - The Right Tractor for Me?

Buy the SSQA (Skid Steer Quick Attach) option for connecting your bucket to the FEL at time of purchase. Money well spent. SSQA, like mounting Three Point Hitch implements, takes practice for proficiency. My first 2-3 months with SSQA it took me ten minutes to make the connections. Now...

Kioti DK4710SE HST Cab - The Right Tractor for Me?

Kioti seems like an excellent choice to me. Kioti, Yanmar and Kubota are purported on T-B-N to make a higher proportion of tractor components in their plants, relative to other brands, which buy more components from contract suppliers. Long term, meaning longer than ten years, internal...
