R3 Turf tires are actually preferable unless you're in deep mud like in the photo above. More biting edges, more surface contact, more pliable sidewalls, it all adds up to more traction. R4s are terrible, and R1s are only good if you're in that mud that was pictured in the post above me.

The factory oil filter on my Workmaster 40 was that way. The Incredible Hulk works on the LS engine line, and somebody pissed him off right before my engine arrived at his station for the oil filter. It's ridiculous.

I tried also. But I learned quickly that 25 HP combined with a hydro trans wasn't going to work on a 4,500 lb. piece of equipment. If a guy wanted the gear drive trans he could probably do a lot of work with 25 HP. But with the hydro any jobs were basically low range only.

Ran these tires on it for 21 years with no issues. Used them in very extreme situations moving rock from utility line construction, climbing up onto piles of sharp rock, plowing snow on steep inclines, driving down into creek beds to retrieve fallen trees, dragging logs from mud, you name it...

My Workmaster 40 gets run at 1,500 to 1,800 RPM most of the time. Even still, I only see regen about once per 30 hours of operation. If I ran it harder more often it would regen less, but it would also burn more diesel. This thing loves to drink diesel fuel while mowing at 2,500 RPM.

I have the same 43" rear R4 tires on my tractor that RK uses. The R4s are 6-ply and are rock hard, so I strongly recommend LESS than 15 PSI to ensure decent traction. At 20 PSI they become concrete blocks and slide a lot. I think currently mine are at 12 PSI rear, with fluid in them.
