    Best truck under $10k?

Electric trucks are going to be cost prohibitive for a long time because of the likely battery replacement cost coming in at 100-150k miles. My particular ranger has a 15 city/20 hwy rating. The E85 version has a 11 city/15 hwy rating. So it's 25% lower, at least. But again saving 50% on fuel... I know a guy who converted his jeep to e85 and says his mpg stayed the same. Not sure if that was a scientific test however.

    Retaining Wall Failure

No, not my wall! But rather a new large housing development up on a hill just finished this retaining wall a few months ago... then the biggest rainfall we've seen in years in San Diego came. Could have been worse, I guess but then again this is a pretty big failure in my eyes. The wall I...

After the forms were removed. Car on the driveway after a week of curing. Curing process was watering 6-7x per day.

No more updates for now. Driveway is curing and a storm just passed through. Next steps are filling the spaces between sections with sand and stone then landscaping, and turf. Should be looking good by the spring.

Same. Also if there's surcharge, even 4' requires engineering.

20 hours later. Looks like the concrete poured from the first truck that had retardant in it already has hairline cracks. The concrete from the second truck without retardant has no cracking whatsoever. I've seen some of the concrete guys on YouTube talk about this happening but no conclusive...

Yeah the mix was a bit dry, kept it in place. The finishers like that soupy pea gravel mix but it isn't strong enough for anything other than walkways IMO.

Unnecessary driveway all poured. Going to cut the control joints this morning.
  144. Muhammad

    Retaining walls and patio

No reason really. I guess we could have. Hopefully the combination of the rebar, big rock concrete, the thickness being average about 5", the sections only being 6', and using control joints will be enough the keep it in tact.

Pouring tomorrow morning. Cost on this one is: 19 yards of concrete $2,805 Pump truck $500 Finish crew $1,200 Rebar $300 Lumber $180 Total $4985 for 1200 sq ft. Add $1,950 for removal of the old driveway. The first project with steps was about $4,200 including some discretionary stuff so...

    Retaining walls and patio

Well let's be honest, most of this has been for aesthetic reasons only. But the driveway had large cracks and sections were sunken and raised, creating a trip hazard. The weather here allows for less structurally sound building methods, compared to other areas. The way I see it, the stairs...

I should have taken photos of the roots that were growing under the driveway. The source of the cracks was obvious.

    Retaining walls and patio

Soil never freezes here and we get minimal rain. It's a very mild climate. The usual base here is compacted dirt although some like to use crushed rock, it's not really necessary.
  152. Muhammad

    Retaining walls and patio

I'm thinking it will also be less likely to crack since the sections will be smaller.

Uneventful pour... which is a good thing I guess. Ordered 7 yards, used about 6.5. 480 sq ft. $1,187 for concrete, $385 for pumping, $800 for finishers.

Forms are all set for the concrete pour tomorrow. These are not normal stairs. They are floating sections that have a cantilever overhang to give them the appearance of floating. Yeah it's still a 4' limit in this town and you can do multiple terraces without a permit. They care more about cmu walls than stacked keystone blocks.
