    Mystery part

Can anyone tell me what this (see photos) is on my Massey Ferguson MF 1726E? It's on the right side, below the oil fill cap. It seems to be a cap or a valve in a rubber tube. I think the cap had a tab on it so you could use your fingers to turn it. But the tab may have broken off when my metal...

    Which jumper cables

I need a new set of jumper cables. I'd like for them to be satisfactory for my MF 1726E as well as automobiles. I will get "heavy duty" ones, as I've had experiences where lighter cables did not do the job when needed. As I understand, 4-gauge is considered "heavy duty", but 1-gauge is even...

    Brush cutter gear oil leak

My King Kutter brush hog is losing gear oil from the gear box. It's not coming out around the gear box on top of the deck. Any idea where it would be coming out?

Loose gear box on bush hog

I was running my old KingKutter bush hog through some fairly heavy brush when it started sounding more rattly. Upon looking I saw that all four of the bolts that hold the gear box onto the top of the deck were loose! I guess I need to get the stump jumper out of the way so I can hold the nuts...

    instructions for adjusting brakes

Can anyone refer me to a good source of information on making basic repairs & adjustments on a MF 1700 series tractor? I am not a mechanic, so I need things spelled out clearly. My brakes badly need adjustment, and my manual says to-- -"Remove the interlock plate." -- Does this refer to the...

    Tractor bogs down

I was brush-hogging--fairly intensive work on a hillside--when my 2017 MF1726E seemed to run out of steam. No oomf. I parked it and rested it for an hour, then tried again. Now it seemed ok. We'll see how it does next time out. Meanwhile, any idea what the problem was? It was a bit on the low...

    Cannot engage PTO

I have a 2018 MF 1726E. It has always been hard to engage the PTO. In fact, I usually use a big screwdriver as a pry bar to get the PTO selector lever to move forward into the engaged position. Today, however, I cannot for the life of me get it to move into the engaged position. I have the...

    Oil filter wrench

Can any one tell me a trick to get the oil filter off my 1726E? It's tucked down among other stuff so it's very hard to get a wrench on (See attached photo) (and it seems to be on very tight). I've tried several wrenches but none are able to get a good enough grip on it and allow me to exert the...

    Front axle oil fill level

The manual to my 1726E says to "make sure the oil level is at the mid point of the front axle housing." Here's the diagram. The fill plug is #1. It looks to me like the mid-point of the axle housing is about 4" below the top of the fill plug hole. Here's a photo of the front axle oil fill plug...

Is this really a grease fitting?

This (attached) is the guard on the shaft of my brush hog. The thing surrounded by red looks kind of like a zerk fitting. Is that what I use to grease the shaft? Or do I need to get the guard off or somehow access a fitting on the shaft itself?

    Tie rod end grease fitting?

The manual for my MF1726E says there are grease fittings on the tie-rod ends. I found this (attached) on the left side, but it seems to be different from the other grease fittings. I have a grease gun with a "LockNLube" fitting that holds onto the grease fitting while you pump the gun. However...

    Engine Oil

What's best for my 2018 MF1726E--Synthetic oil? Synthetic blend? or regular (good quality) oil? Thnx...

    Hard to engage PTO

It's often very hard to get the PTO to engage on my MF1726E. I try putting it in neutral, putting the range shifter in neutral, working the clutch, and taking it out of 4x4--but sometimes I just can't get the bugger to engage! What am I missing?

    Hidden grease fitting?

My L105E loader has 3 grease zerks on the left side that I can find. On the right side, I only see 2. In the attached photo of the right side, the fitting near the top-center of the photo, holding the hydraulic lines, is where there is a grease zerk on the left side. Should I try removing that...

    Stuck in gear

The range shift mechanism on my 2018 MF 1726E sometimes gets stuck in gear--usually the turtle gear, which I use most--when I park it. Then I have to find a way to get it to neutral so I can start it. I take it out of 4x4, change the gear I'm in, and just shake everything until it finally breaks...

    3-Point Hitch  Stabilizer question

Here's the left part of the hitch on my MF 1700E. As you can see, the stabilizer (seen near the bottom of the photo) has a nut that you tighten against the barrel of the stabilizer to keep it from vibrating out of adjustment. It seems to me that it would be a lot easier to access and turn...

    3-Point Hitch  Cannot engage PTO

I have a Massey Ferguson 2018 MF 1726E. I cannot engage the PTO. The lever will not go forward to engage it. Down below, I see this (attached). It looks like that bolt-like object could be turned in or out. Is that what I should try doing? Thanks.

    Brakes lock up

My two-year-old MF 1726EL has a couple of times had the brake pedals lock up in the depressed position. Of course, that means the brakes are engaged. It seems to happen when for some reason I stepped very hard on them to come to a quick stop while going downhill. I have since avoided the problem...

    Brakes did not release

I had occasion to step hard on the brakes (linked together) of my year-old 1726E. When I released them, they stayed on. The pedals did not come up and the brakes were in effect. It was not that the parking brake lever was in the wrong position, holding them down. I repeatedly stepped hard on the...

    Rotary Cutter  Shear pin?

I seem to have sheared a pin that holds the PTO shaft onto the gear box shaft on my old KingKutter rotary cutter (L-48-40-P-Y). It is about ス" diameter. The part that is left is 1 シ"" long (the diameter of the shaft coming out of the gear box). Apparently the ends sheared off and are gone...

Rotary Cutter  Best rotary cutters for uneven terrain

I have a lot of areas with irregular ground, containing small dips & humps. I need to keep some of them mowed as well as possible. I've been using a rotary brush cutter on my compact tractor to do a reasonable job, but it's hard to keep it from occasionally digging into the ground. I'm afraid...

    Chains?

I live in a snow belt in northern Michigan. I have a hilly driveway. For years I've kept it plowed using a 2-wheel-drive Ford 9N with chains on the tires. Now I have bought an MF1726E, which of course has 4WD (with R4-type tires). My question is, in order to be ready when winter descends, should...

    Differential lock

I can't figure out how to lock the differential on my MF 1726E. The control by my right foot is sort of an upside-down capital "L", and I'm not sure if I'm supposed to move the lever down or to the side. Even by stepping on it, I can't seem to engage it by moving the lever down; but I also can't...

    trans/hydro oil amount

I just did the 50-hour service on my Massey 1726E. My book says it holds 10.04 gallons of trans/hydro oil, but I've already put about 10.1+ gallons in and don't seem to see it through the sight-glass (unless it's full above the level of the glass and I can't tell). Should I just keep adding? Any...

Oil & Fuel  Front axle oil level

My new MF 1726E will be ready for its first service soon, so I was looking things over. The manual says to check the front axle oil by making sure the level is at the mid point of the front axle housing. But it doesn't tell specifically how to determine that. Can anyone steer me to information...
