Interesting, good to know. It was listed as muffler on the diagrams but I know the naming can't always be accurate. I'm certainly picky with leaving spark arrestors in boats, hadn't considered it with the tractor. Thanks for the word of warning.

I noticed on the parts diagram that my muffler was simply a welded module inside of a hollow cast cavity. There was only one appropriate course of action. No unpleasant increase in sound level, but based on the amount of carbon that was jammed into that muffler I'm sure she can breathe better now.
