Making the decision to buy a Ventrac

I forget not many equipment operators on here. When I'm digging with the power bucket I have loaded so much in the bucket I could see the dirt in the bucket over the hood while seated..... thats called heaped...... Now that is original ground I'm digging not a loose pile......BTW I have been...

Ventrac 4500 stalling moving out of neutral

That doesn't sound good at all..... My closest dealer is a bandit and with Ventrac being taken over by Toro it will get worse. He is a Toro dealer to start with, They can get parts but I have to pay top dollar.... jim
  126. J

Making the decision to buy a Ventrac

The Versa loader will not pick any more or dig anymore than the 48" bucket, look at the video the only thing they load is mulch...... I dig top soil that I can see over the hood, that is bank dirt ...... jim
  127. J

Ventrac 4500 stalling moving out of neutral

Maybe after the warranty runs out.... 185 @ hr. and travel, sounds outrageous to me. They only get 75 to a 100.00 to pick mine up and take it to be fixed.... jim
  128. J

Making the decision to buy a Ventrac

Having had both a Powertrac is a great tractor but a sick chicken on a hill when trying to mow and go up at the same time...... jim
  129. J

Making the decision to buy a Ventrac

I can do a lot with the bucket, no I can't load a pick up but I'm not that stupid to have to shovel it off. it will out mow any CUT...... and go places the CUT wouldn't think of..... I put a 3 point hitch on my 4500P and have a ripper I made I use to loosen up the dirt if I need to...... jim
  130. J

Ventrac 4500 stalling moving out of neutral

The parking brake on mine, when released and it has about 3" of free play before the light comes on..... So what my guess is that parking brake is adjusted too tight...... jim
  131. J

Ventrac 4500 stalling moving out of neutral

Yes I got it backwards on the light, if you wiggle the parking brake you need an adjustment on that switch.... jim
  132. J

Ventrac 4500 stalling moving out of neutral

Is the light coming on to say the parking brake is off?
  133. J

Ventrac 4500 stalling moving out of neutral

Just bypass the neutral switch and see if it works, also the electric clutch has to be off and you have to be in the seat or bypass it .... jim

    Steiner steering pivot removal question

Why...... no lock nut....... screw the new one on and weld it again, or it will unscrew itself..... make sure you cover the rod when you weld it..... jim

    3pt. Hitch load on 4500

I was looking at 3 point sprayers and some run off a gas Honda engine with a 60 gal. tank. I don't know if they would work or not...... jim
  137. J

    3pt. Hitch load on 4500

I would look into a 3 point 60 gal. sprayer that uses a gas motor to power it. A 100 gal. seems huge for just a ball field. If you already have it, get a 12 volt 60 amp. alternator and drive it off the front and not fill the tank to max..... jim

    PT Stump Grinder feedback

Were they welded on the edge or on the sides?
  139. J

    PT Stump Grinder feedback

I would get in touch with Terry at PT.and see if you can get wheel already made up or just get set of teeth. I would make sure it is a stump grinder first..... jim
  140. J

    PT Stump Grinder feedback

They are different diameter or different spiral I think most are double spiral... But carbide is I bet brazed on, those teeth on the newer ones are bolted on the whole tooth and I'm wondering if it isn't a trencher rather than a stump grinder...... jim
  141. J

    Ventrac Center Pivot

Same here I'm on my own, top one is easier to see just remove the plate under the steering wheel near the bottom and where you can see the top bearing that has the large nut, then raise and lower the mower deck a little and see if there is any movement, if not, it's in the bottom bar...... jim
  142. J

    PT Stump Grinder feedback

BTW. Stump grinders have bolt on teeth, that maybe a trencher or a super old stump grinder.... jim
  143. J

    PT Stump Grinder feedback

That hose needs replaced it's too small, should be the same size..... I use mine to make a ditch too, to bury electric lines... jim
  144. J

    PT Stump Grinder feedback

I had one on a old 422 and it did great. I reversed the blade and the hoses to throw the chips away and did some huge cherry and maple and oak stumps. yes you will need a new blade or see if they can fix that one.... Pine stumps are a cake job ....lol.... jim
  145. J

    Ventrac Center Pivot

is the play in the top or the bar at the bottom, or both...... jim

    Steiner steering pivot removal question

The problem with that is weld penetration and drag it down through the threads. Parting it off below the weld cuts it off clean to screw often cut weld off going away from the thread..... less chance of trashing the cylinder ..... jim
  147. J

    Steiner steering pivot removal question

if you part it off on the lathe ahead of the weld you won't have to deal with the penetration fo the weld. Then see fit screws off, if it does turn the rest of the weld off going away from the threads...... I would bet the weld was used in place of a lock nut.... jim
  148. J

    Steiner steering pivot removal question

do you have access to a lathe ? turn it off...... jim

PT 422 finish mower rear wheels damage turf

It doesn't on a Ventrac mower deck, that is why I said it and the roller would block the rear discharge. They flat throw it under the right front wheel on the tractor, anything would help..... jim
  150. J

PT 422 finish mower rear wheels damage turf

Maybe cut a discharge hole on the right side of the deck and frame it in for strength.... then put a roller in the back....... jim

    Ventrac 3 Point Hitch Parts

I do have the manual top link, I use the hydraulic. one... I would check with Ventrac on the other four parts you need ... The arms and links are made for the Ventrac.... jim
  156. J

Differences? Steiner 450 vs Ventrac 4500?

Having had both, the Steiner is a little more crude than the Ventrac. it seems the Steiner is stronger on the hydraulics than the Ventrac.... As far as the three point hitch, I have it but it isn't used much and near worthless.... The Ventrac mower deck is way better than the Steiner and the one...
  157. J

    Ventrac Center Pivot

Look at the parts manual ..... I would look at the bar on the bottom first and check for play on both ends.... jim
  158. J

    Ventrac 3 Point Hitch Parts

They do or did make two different three point hitches... they do list two when I put mine on..... jim
  159. J

PT 422 finish mower rear wheels damage turf

I removed them and chucked them up in a lathe and rounded the edges with large radius, it helped a lot.... Wet ground.... it's a poor set up, you need a weight transfer system.... one more thing you can't run caster wheels because the deck runs too close to the tractor..... jim

What do people use to add excavator traction when it gets really wet?

That is a separate thread, this was two pages. you ask the question on how to get more traction with an excavator..... don't worry I won't comment any more and I will leave you with this you can't fix stupid..... jim
  161. J

What do people use to add excavator traction when it gets really wet?

An excavator is made to dig lifting up, from the pics to dig out the island ?? I would have made a dry level spot and clean the the mud off between that island the dug any good dry dirt and filled it in hole I dried up and walked out on it and did my thing. If you have no dry dirt to set on...

  170. J

My solution for 3PT float on my GC1700

Why would you go into float tilting ? For th limited need for float I would slip the hook over the leaver, bolt the other end on something and take some of the bend out of the hook end ... Plus when on hooked put it in the slot till the next time.... jim
  171. J

My solution for 3PT float on my GC1700

89,000lb wheel loader or 18,000lb backhoe???

I think what you are seeing is the devaluation of the dollar, Wait till this moron in the White house gets done...... jim
  174. J

    Scraper

That is called a back blade, I would guess that is why you got limited response. First you need to be a little under the width with the blade angled. A box blade is better for moving dirt.... jim

    Worst problem with 8 tires

Buy 3400L or wait for 4000 series?

They mow better, they travel better..... but with the bucket, the Powertrac is superior... the stump grinder is superior.... as is the other with their implements .... Mower is the weakest point but they are average. I would ask them on the forum on Powertrac to give a little help on your...

Yes they are articulated but they use wheel motors...... jim
  184. J

Buy 3400L or wait for 4000 series?

Maybe you should look at a Power trac they are very good machines and excellent on the front bucket and other implements like snow plows. If it had a weak point it would be the mower and travel on very steep areas, great in the woods. They will lift more than twice what most Ventracs and cuts...
  185. J

Buy 3400L or wait for 4000 series?

I think you would to compare both with the bucket and lift capability and the curl .....Ventrac uses the hydraulic. pressure off the hydrostate but implement and steering pressure on Steiner are on a separate external pump. It is very noticeable ...... jim
  186. J

Buy 3400L or wait for 4000 series?

If it were me and had a fairly flat yard I would go for a zero turn.... speed wise nothing can touch them and look for a nice red CUT with a front bucket and witha backhoe.... then find the attachments you need... you will have all the bases covered...... jim
  187. J

Buy 3400L or wait for 4000 series?

my dealer did too, but the price of the Steiner was less than the Ventrac. This took away from the Ventrac sales, and I'm sure profits as Ventrac is way over priced. Parts for there crazy expensive as are the attachments. I found a used stump grinder for less than a 1/3 of new price. Changed the...

Buy 3400L or wait for 4000 series?

No they wouldn't have .... The 3000 series is an excellent mower it is not as good with the other attachments. Small wheels and tires higher center of gravity but excellent view of what you are doing.... A PITA to get on and off.... If I didn't have heavy work to do and not steep I would have...

Buy 3400L or wait for 4000 series?

Buy 3400L or wait for 4000 series?

Is an old Steiner 420 an old homeowner's best friend?

The one from Ventrac has a wear factor built in, two sets of holes then move it to the next set. After you wear it down on that set, flip it over and start again. I did rip it up a little doing my neighbors stone drive, but learned ...... jim
  194. J

Is an old Steiner 420 an old homeowner's best friend?

I use a poly cutting edge on my blade. That eliminates the little layer of snow and it doesn't mark up the blacktop. and it isn't that expensive, sure a lot cheaper than a broom..... jim
