I have occasional use for 0# and 00# greases. usually 3-4 tubes a year at most.. sometimes only 2 a year.

i had been getting cornhead grease ( polyurea based ep 0# ) from my local greensouth dealer.

they stopped selling it on the shelf, adn i can get it but have to order somethig like a 30 tube case to get it.

I'd almost consider a 10 tube case.. but past that is just way too much.

anyone know any 'regular' box store or 'on the shelf' suppliers that are carrying anything like this?

my local CNh tractor dealer used to carry EP pourable grease too.. but he's been bought out and it's more of a lawnmower place now.. :(

ideas?

had been getting cornhead grease ( polyurea based ep 0# ) from my local greensouth dealer.

all the local auto parts places faces glaze over when I ask for a nlgi 0# or 00# grease.

they have no idea what i'm talking about or how to order it...

I had no idea your greensouth dealer was a JD dealer hence the question, anyway if your auto parts stores NAPA,carquest, etc, etc can't help you that's sad you can always go on line last resort.

any other Ag dealers by you, CAT,challenger,NewHolland,etc...

SG;

I got some NGLI 0 grease cartridges from McMaster-Carr. They have all kinds of grease in their catalog. I just browsed through until I found some Moly NGLI 0 cartridges. Good Luck

:) that's all 'greensouth' is.. jd only.. hence the 'green' in the name.. :) it's a southern based ( florida, georgia, south carolina ) JD dealer organization.

I already mentioned a CNH dealer as well.. :)

napa gives a blank stare.. much as they do when you walk in with a part number you KNOW they carry and is still in their system as active, yet they don't have on hand, or can't punch in a 'car' application into their computer so they can figure out how to look it up.

last time i tried to get a 0# grease from them they kept asking me what vehicle .. :( sad....

I can find cornhead, checvron and amsoil 0# greases online easy enough.. again.. don't really need to buy a lifetime supply.. which is what most of the suppliers I find online are wanting to sell. have yet to find one willing to sell.. say.. 2-3 tubes.. or 5 tubes.. etc..

since i only go thru a couple + tubes a year I don't want 30 tubes setting around waiting for me to use them in 15ys.. :)

have done it before but don't prefer it.

i found some #1 locally.. but still would love to get some 0 or 00# locally.

stopped by fastenall, and they had a glimemr of hope.. they might be able to order amsoil 00ep.. but I will need to see if they can order by tube or if they want me to buy a semi truck load like everybody else does.. :(

We get mobil SHC 007 at work in quart containers (kinda like gear lube).

But unfortunatally I dont know who their supplier is:confused:

For not using much of it, your best bet may be online as others have mentioned. A case cant be that $$$ and should last you a couple of years.

a 10 tube case should last me 3-4 years at my current usage rate. and that's about the MAX i'd want to store it for.

I would also consider pourable EP lube.. like for golf course equipment. alas.. our local dealer stopped carrying it :( Oh wait. locally I can buy it in 35g kegs.. :( have enough to pass down to the children I don't have.. :( :( )

you dont feel the homebrew version stacks up well against real 0/00?
dont want the hassle of doing it...?

whats your reason?

i just don't like the hassle. In a pinch I have mixed down #1 or #2 gun grease and 85/140 or lucas hub oil into a thin consistency for a leaky gearbox.. but it is another couple steps and time loss and sometimes messy. way nicer just to reach for the 0 or 00 grease and go when needed.

got lucky today. called a local shop that does gravely golf course equipment.

low and behold ( I had a hunch they would ) they had 00 grease in stock. I went and picked up enough to last me 2ys at my current usage. Comperable to jd cornhead grease price, so.. was a good deal IMHO

What brand of grease did they stock? 00 grease has keep me mowing, when a piece of wire cut the output seal and let the 85/140 out. I now run 00 full time, even with good seals because it coats the gears well during the winter storage.

how close is the nearest farmer that grows cotton? if you can find one, we buy picker grease in bulk and you might could get some when the harvest is over.

   / 0 or 00# grease sources? #17
If you buy in bulk, you need to research Schaeffer's Cotton Picker grease. Hi-temp Bentone base grease and high viscosity index oils. Users experience a significant reduction in grease consumption, works well at start up and continues to provide exceptional protection as the temps rise because it wont melt out. It comes in 0, 00 and 000 grades.

Reduced condsumption, better performance = reduced costs.

I tried to attach the technical information. Don't know if it worked. Private message me I can e-mail you the information.

since I'm in florida.. I'm about a 'state' away from cotton growers.

also.. this grease is not going to be used in a standard grease joint.. it will be used in a gearbox.. thus no consumption.

i go through 180 gals a wk through 3 pickers. i also use it in all my gearboxes too. most places i buy from have a bulk tank (6500 gals) and i put it in a 250 gal tank.
