Recent thunder storm brought down a medium size tree limb... maybe 5" at the largest part... limb was completly disconnected from the tree... simple move, hook a 20' chain to the low point and pull! Murphy's law... large end of the branch fell and hit my ROPS (saved my life) them bounced off the right signal light on the orange tractor... popped the lens off both sides and broke the bulb... picked up both parts and only one was broke. A trip to TSC and $1.29 latter it is good as new... My skivvies is another story!

Just a hint (tho, you don't need it now...):

It doesn't matter how big or small a tree or branch is. It'll give you a pretty good smack if you're now paying close enough attention. Wood is very resilient & will try it's darnedest to return to it's original shape when pressure is relieved. It's ALWAYS heavier than it looks.

They call them "Widow makers" for a reason. Even a 1" branch from 20' up will puncture metal or noggins under the right conditions

did you see the season of axe men on history channel when they caught on camera the 1.5" limb falling out of the tree about 60' up and smashing through the 1.5" polycarbonate bullet proof window narrowly missing the operator of the machine? Fell like a missile from the sky!

Came back from trip out of town, found about a 5-inch tree limb sticking through the ceiling in a bedroom. Over the 20+ years have had a lot of limbs hit the roof (loats of oaks & sweetgums) with little or no damage, but this one just happended to hit broken end first in pretty much a vertical orientation. I make it a point not to wander around outside under trees too much when its windy.

BTDT - had it happen last winter - funny/stupid part was when I pulled it out the weight of it almost pulled me off the roof. I was rushing to get the hole patched cause the storm was moving in quick.

As far as pulling them outta trees - I always use 100' of rope. Might look stupid, but no way it can hit me.

Roger on walking in the woods on windy days!

One time I was squirrel hunting and stopped at a tree and sat down. Looked around and noticed a huge rotten branch over me, said what are the odds, then said with my luck better move. So I move and sit and in less than five minutes that huge rotten branch fell and crashed right where I had been sitting with my back up against the tree.

If it looks bad be safe it only takes a second.
