Just bring it here and I'll get my 3 phase rotary converter built. :) Oh, bring your gantry crane at the same time :)
If you were closer I'd let you have that chop saw. But it may take a week to get to it. It's in the back of a 20-feet long shipping container, that is stuffed full of stuff I cant bring my self t get rid of.

Oh the crane isn't going any where!:D

Yikes, the Dewalt 14in dry cut chop saw is $435 at Home Depot. I think I will stick with my abrasive version. :smiley_aafz:

And the abrasive is $163. That's why I'm thinking of going direct to "cold cut" and wait for the cost of laser cutters to drop :) I don't want to "waste" $150 on abrasive that could have been put directly into a dry chop saw. Like I wrote, if I had an abrasive I'd probably live with it.

I agree. I would probably do the same.

I've been sorta watching prices for a while now, and one WARNING to others - in the typical price range ($4-500) some of the saws use a wimpy stamped steel base, others use cast iron, still others use cast aluminum.

In my NSHOFO (NotSoHumbleOldFart'sOpinion :D) ANY cast base beats stamped steel (unless the steel is 1/4" or so) and cast IRON beats cast aluminum (slightly easier to repair, maybe)

IIRC, Milwaukee's is(was) one of the few in that price range with cast iron.

Not as big a deal if you're only gonna put thinwall tubing, etc, on the saw - but 4" heavy wall tubing/pipe gets heavy fast.

Back to the continuing drool-fest :D ...Steve

They are not cheap but keep in mind the blades are over $100 and it comes with one. I think they turn a lot slower than an abrasive so you can't just swap blades. The difference in cuts is like night and day. They are straight and clean. If you want a cheaper one northern has one for less than $300 that is a no name brand but has decent reviews.

Here is a link to a review on the northern saw

http://youtu.be/Gedap0Js4gI

Good link.
When I first really got into Chain Saw Milling I bought the $80 Northern Tool knockoff of the top rated $300 Oregon chain sharpener. I had to shim it and tape 1 piece. It's served me well for about a dozen sessions of multiple chains since 2009.
The Ironton might be similar, especially if they have not cheapened it in the interim.

I wouldn't trust Lanse's review anymore than that three week welder Shield Arc :)
