Maybe I missed it, but how are the 2x8 floor joists/stringers attached to the skids?
I'll attached a photo that you can "somewhat see" that each stringer has six, 4" structural screws "toenailed" into it. These stringers are at 1 foot spacing there is lots of screws in them! What you can't seen in the photo is the stringers had diaphragms added between them at the ends of the building to increase the attachment forces here, where its needed most. The diaphragms were of course cut from 2x8's and they were "toenailed" down as well. Without photos of them, its hard to explain.
I just looked to see where Houghton MI was located since you noted the specs were for a high snow load. Once I saw where you were on the map, I realized why. I'm familiar with "snow belt" here in northern Ohio, but you are in a "snow belt and suspenders" area.![]()
At the end of a long day, we decided to tow an implement in. Please note, we should have used a strap winch mounted to floor to tow in, but its not setup yet.
Could you mount a hook and place a block at floor level to redirect your single winch cable so that it can pull straight in instead of lifting up. Also eliminates the need for a floor winch.
I think our area is 20, but I'm just outside the snow belt area so nothing special. My pole barn was built for 30. I don't know what the code is for the specific snow belt areas farther east along Lake Erie, but if I had to guess I would say double mine. Still nothing close to yours.
