Re: 16 or 18\' Trailer
My next trailer will be...with slide out or folding ramps. Its a pain to carry a 100# ramp around.
I say this every time someone mentions getting a new trailer so I'd hate to let this time pass without comment. Get a tilt bed trailer and you don't have to worry about ramps at all. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Another advantage is that I don't have a dovetail at the rear taking up a couple feet of flat floor space. My floor length is all useable, loadable space.
I have a 26' trailer with a 22' diamond plate floor. Yes, the diamond plate can become very slippery when it's not dry, but so can wood in many instances, too. The trailer has a hydraulic pump run by an electric motor to power it. This setup has made life so much easier.
I added an 8000# electric winch to mine so I can even load a dead vehicle with no problems at all. With a 40' winch control lead I can even steer something on while the winch is pulling it. Once I get it loaded I level the bed, hook a couple chains on the back then use the winch to take out the slack. A manually snugged safety chain on the front as a backup for the winch brake and I'm good to go. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
That method works so well that now I tend to use it even with a running vehicle. It doesn't add much if any time to the process and I have much more control than I would driving it on. it's especially helpful if I'm loading something with which I'm not going to have much margin for error on centering it because of it's width.
